\n<\/a> When you start collecting a new line, the parameters aren\u2019t always set. Are you getting just your favorites or just the figures that are honest-to-god well-made? Or are you so happy with the property or product that you\u2019re willing to double down? To get everything until they make an expensive to obtain SDCC exclusive? (hmm\u2026)<\/em>. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know if most collectors are like me, or if I\u2019m just weird, but I love checklists. Heck, I love lists in general. So when Star Wars Black was announced, I made a quick list of figures I would want. <\/p>\n

Greedo wasn\u2019t on it. <\/p>\n

When I made my list, it was about twenty names and I\u2019ve already bought several figures not on that list, but Greedo still stands out from the crowd a bit. Han & R2 were on my list of course. I didn\u2019t envision Luke in his X-Wing Gear as my first choice, but it\u2019s still buying a Luke. The Sandtrooper is in the same boat. Maul & Fett are kind of a big deal. And then there\u2019s Greedo. <\/p>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

He shows up for a few minutes, says a few lines, and then more infamously than anything, shoots first or second (whatever) and dies. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s Greedo. He\u2019s generously grouped into the \u201cBounty Hunter\u201d subset from ESB, but other than that, he\u2019s a bit player. And figures like Greedo are going to be how Hasbro ensnares 6\u201d toy collectors. <\/p>\n

There are plenty of Star Wars fans who will likely but this line, but there is also a subset of collectors who buy in this scale. Marvel Legends catered to them. DC Universe Classics kept them busy when ML faced uncertain times. And, I could be wrong, but I think a good chunk of us will be migrating towards SWB nowadays. As I said above, some buys are givens. Han Solo. Darth Vader. But how is Hasbro going to move Greedo in that regard? They do the worst thing imaginable: They give him a kickass figure. <\/p>\n

It could just be Han\u2019s neck or Boba\u2019s blocked hips, and that I haven\u2019t opened Leia yet, but Greedo is basically soaking up all my enthusiasm for this wave. I would\u2019ve never guessed that ever. I have to point out, as I usually do, I\u2019m often a toy collector first, and licensing lover second. A bad character getting a fantastic figure is much better than a great character getting a subpar figure in my eyes. I\u2019ll often buy both, but the latter tends to chafe over time. <\/p>\n

So, I partially don\u2019t care that this is Greedo. I admit it. But what I do have is a kickass alien figure in the bestest scale ever. This is how I know Star Wars Black is going to get me into trouble. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Greedo is an all-new sculpt, but I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be seeing plenty of these pieces elsewhere in the line in the coming months. A better Star Wars fan than I could shout out where his jumpsuit and vest could come in handy (and please do in the comments if you can, I\u2019m curious). Greedo himself just needed his unique head sculpt and hands. Those three pieces are done wonderfully too \u2013 the lever of detail on the noggin\u2019 is probably what sells me overall, but the hands are nice too. Hasbro made sure to nail these details down. <\/p>\n

The other good thing about the body and any potential reuse is that the articulation is the star of the show here. The ball-jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, torso, hips, and inverted ankles combine with the thigh swivels and double-hinged knees to give Greedo some impressive movement. With his great alien look captured in the sculpt and all that articulation, I think I\u2019ve played with him the most out of the seven I\u2019ve opened. That\u2019s ridiculous. It\u2019s friggin\u2019 Greedo. <\/p>\n

The paintwork had a few issues here there, notably the bluish silver paint on the eyes being a little crooked. It\u2019s not a big deal, but it annoys me a lot in that close-up pic on page one and I bet you saw it too! Other than that, the figure is mostly cast in the appropriate colors, but some sharp paintwork can be found on the belt and the yellowish running stripe on the jumpsuit. It\u2019s crisp where it needs to be and has a great dirty wash over the whole outfit. <\/p>\n

Greedo included a removable belt and his \u201cshoot first, fire second\u201d laser. The gun fits great in the holster and looks sharp, but it also fits perfectly in his right hand. The vest is also removable if you\u2019re so inclined. I do wish he came with a little more \u2013 a glass? Something? But it could just be withdrawl from Han Solo\u2019s figure which included a bunch of fun stuff. <\/p>\n

Overall, I know this is the figure where things are going to start getting me in trouble. Greedo was just too fun to pass up and if that keeps being the case\u2026 well, I don\u2019t think I have enough room. Hasbro has done a great job kicking off Star Wars Black though. I\u2019ve had some nitpicks, but the sculpts are sharp and some great paint apps and smart articulation really combine for an outstanding figure. I still want bicep swivels, but I\u2019d be lying if I said Hasbro wasn\u2019t on to something. I won\u2019t be getting everything – the Wave Three Anakin is testament enough to that, but if the figures keep coming out this sharp, then yeah, I\u2019ll be buying a few more than I expected.<\/p>\n
