I was thinking about what we post when it was suggested to me that everybody loves Top Ten lists! I thought that sounded like a not too bad idea, and Vault is always ready for a reason to skip a review, so we set out with a plan to do a couple quick Top Ten lists a day to get us through the week (though somehow I’m going to end up doing more work this way, I just know it!). Most of them will actually be “Top 20” lists because Vault and I decided to participate in both rather than miss out on one. For MOTU, I’ll run my Top Ten down the left in blue while Vault will have his Top Ten on the right in red. Should be fun to compare.

More importantly, we’d also like to hear the Top Ten figures as judged by our readers. If we get enough feedback, we’d be happy to post follow-ups using your answers.

We decided to kick things off with MOTU Classics. It’s still the most fun line we’re collecting (though there are some up & comers you’ll see later in the week) and there’s a laundry list of characters we still want even though line is considered by many to be in it’s “twilight”. Vault and I have each chosen 10 things we still want to see in the line before the curtain draws.

Now, I haven’t read Vault’s entire list yet, but I do have one caveat for mine: I didn’t pick anything that I was reasonably sure was already on the way. My No. 1 want is easily Rio Blast, but I’m feeling safe that we’ll get him. Similarly, I want Mermista & Eldor, I’m excited to see how they do Dragstor & Tung Lashor. I think all those are coming and they’re basically the RSTLN & E of MOTU Top Ten lists right now. So rather than make a list the same as everyone else, I’ve opted to make this a Top Ten list of who we’ll STILL want to see after Toy Guru is done marching through the vintage checklists. If I’m lucky some are already on the way, if not… well, that’s life. Now on to the lists!

Noisy No. 10 – Weapons Paks!

Vault No. 10 – Melaktha!

I’m putting this one at No. 10, ahead of some characters like Darius & Slime Pit He-Man simply because I love having extra gear. The alternate colored pieces so far have (mostly) rocked & helped flesh out the line. I do want some “sets” complete (He-Man’s gear in Adam’s colors), but I’d love to see new ideas too. It’s said Weapons Paks are done with, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that we might see more beyond 2015.

I always saw Melaktha as an important part of Eternia. He was the Royal Archeologist; appearing a few times in the Filmation series. I like the idea of normal people inhabiting my shelf with all the monsters and mutants. The figure itself would be a simple buck with a new head and clothes, but being an archeologist, who better to come with a small horde of rare artifacts?

Noisy No. 9 – Stridor/Night Stalker!

Vault No. 9 – Snake Armor He-Man!

These guys exist on the bubble between pipe dream and reality. These two just feel like two big a part of the vintage line to skip over, but that might just happen. I, for one, hope not. They could share tooling and probably sell equally well, so Mattel should feel confident. If nothing else, a 4H sculpted robotic horse would have to look kickass even if it wasn’t MOTU.

One of my favorite figures from MO2K was Snake Armor He-Man. I loved the idea that the Snake Men were so powerful that even He-Man needed a bit more help in dealing with them. While I wouldn’t be opposed to getting some Horde Armor to go along with it, the Snake Armor has appeared in continuity and deserves a first chance.

Noisy No. 8 – Battleground Marlena

Vault No. 8 – Molkron!

Say What? Yep, Marlena’s Captain Glenn gear was a smart way to make her more of an action figure, but I loved seeing Marlena kickass in the MO2K cartoon and this has been a figure I’ve wanted ever since. Given a proper “classics-over”, I think she’d fit great in Mattel’s “Battleground” series and make a fine counterpart to the royal version we already have. The only question is, would she stay a red head?

Now that we have the Staff of Avion, it’s only right to get the beast it summoned! Molkron is one of the more nightmarish creatures to come out of Filmation. Molkron always freaked me out a bit as a kid with his centaur-like body and tentacles for arms. Not to mention his flowing blonde locks. I’d love to see the Four Horsemen’s disturbing take on this Classics figure.

Noisy No. 7 – Tuskador!

Vault No. 7 – Stridor & Night Stalker!

Tuskador makes my list thanks to Mattel’s downright shameful New York Comic-Con vote that cast Mara as the “NA Poll” winner. I don’t mind Mara one-but, but only 50-some odd people voted (were they all subscribers?) and Tuskador lost by one vote. Simply put, he needs rescued from the cutting room floor! Also, a recent mock-up using Ram Man as a buck made Tuskador absolutely sing to me. Snout Spout could use a friend.

Two words: Robot. Horse. I think everyone had at least one of these when they were kids. And what’s not to love about them, besides the fact that they didn’t move at all? That’s where the Classics line comes in! The 4H have done amazing work on the technical details of the Wind Raider and Jet Sled, so I can only imagine how great these horses would be.

Noisy No. 6 – Calix!

Vault No. 6 – Kulatak Chief!

Calix makes my list for sheer “toyeticness”. At this point, I feel like he’s surely not going to happen. He’s basically a 100% tool of a bit character that appeared for seconds before dying in the MO2K cartoon. Heck, I’d be curious just to see what Toy Guru even wrote in his bio all those years ago. You may balk, but look at him! Imagine the Four Horsemen sculpting a big, rocky menace to join your Horde ranks. You know he’d look cool in three dimensions, right?

The Kulataks are Yeti-like creatures that live in the snowy north of MO2K Eternia. Their Chief was also one of the leaders of Randor’s council. With their oversized, beastly bodies, the Gygor buck with a few new pieces might be a perfect fit for these characters. For added value they could include an alternate Chief head, armor, and staff. That way we’d need multiples to form a Northern Army to battle Icer.

Continue to Page 2 for our Top Fives!

Noisy No. 5 – Veena!

Vault No. 5 – Camo Kahn!

Veena was a tough one. I went back and forth on giving this spot to a MO2K Sorceress, but Veena wins simply for being a new character. New characters are better for the soul than variants. I wouldn’t mind her “classicization” involving the more traditional orange/blue Sorceress colors (the MO2K staction popped wit those), but I think we need her to complete our Preternia collections!

One of my favorite figures in the vintage line was Kobra Kahn. I can still remember the old commerical where drenched He-Man’s shield with “evil mist” (my poor He-shield suffered quite a lot of water damage as a result). Later I would discover Kahen’s cool, Argentinean cousin, “Kobra Kahn Camuflado”. With his cow-like splotches and Buzz-Off arms, I fell in love instantly.

Noisy No. 4 – Delora/Hawke!

Vault No. 4 – Veena!

This one’s tricky, so I’m just putting Hawke & Delora together. If I recall Delora was Stratos’ Filmation sister, but MO2K wife. Hawke was a Filmation villain, but the MO2K wife (?). I think. Anyway, I have always liked the classic Filmation design used for Hawke & Delora and I’d like to see it get a figure. Even the uh… skirt and all. Yeah.

Veena was King Grayskull’s wife and became the first Sorceress after his death. She’s incredibly important to the MOTU mythos and definitely deserves a figure. But there’s another reason to make Veena, an opportunity to reuse the parts to make an Egyptian-styled Classics Sorceress, one of my favorite MO2K redesigns!

Noisy No. 3 – Red Beast!

Vault No. 3 – Illumnina + Cat!

When the subscription sign-up scares started a few years back, concept characters were foolishly blamed as the reason (it must be them!) and that has supposedly caused them to be dropped from the line. My heart cries for a guy like Red Beast who desperately needs to be reunited with Vikor and Demo-Man. He just looks too cool to not get a figure and he’s set to be my biggest MOTUC regret.

Sometimes it feels like beating a dead Stridor when we ask for a figure of Illumina, but I still want her. We still basically know nothing about her, but the inclusion of concept characters in the Classics line is proof that’s okay. If nothing else, she should be a relatively cheap to produce since her and her cat’s design are both adaptations of previous MOTU sources.

Noisy No. 2 – Snake Armor He-Man!

Vault No. 2 – Spirit of Evil!

Yeah, yeah, I just said something about new characters being more important that variants? Well, I still want this He-Man variant in Classics. So what? This is easily my most wanted remaining armor (at least until I see this fabled Horde Armor) even though the MO2K era had some fun iterations. I don’t know if Toy Guru has Snake Armor in his timeline, but I’d love to see it happen before all is said & done.

When questioned by He-Man as to who or what he is, the Spirit of Evil responds “I am the enemy of mankind throughout the universe … I am evil itself.” When the Spirit attacks He-Man directly and sees that his evil is equally matched by He-Man’s good, the Spirit decides it’s not even worth battling He-Man. My long-shot hope is that the upcoming Unnamed One is actually going to be the Spirit of Evil.

Noisy No. 1 – Snake Mountain!

Vault No. 1 – Red Beast!

Yep. I’m going there. I don’t want to hear it, Toy Guru. Space be damned. Logistics be damned. If you give me Castle Grayskull, I will want Snake Mountain. Admittedly, this one is a little tricky because I have no idea what it should look like. Straight classic playset? Some cartoon enhancements? A good blend? No matter what, I know I want it and that is what matters. So, Toy Guru, let’s see that “B” sheet, take some pre-orders, remove some features, shrink it a little, and get on with it already!

Red Beast was one of the original three concept designs done for MOTU. He’s the only one who still hasn’t received a Classics figure. The 4H have done some of their best work on concept figures, and I know Red Beast would be amazing if given the chance. I love his wild bear/dog look and would really want this figure to include a shaggy coat like Grizzlor. My biggest question is will he be Vikor’s best friend or one of his worst enemies?

Alright, those are our lists.
