<\/a> No, brilliant readers, you did not miss the review for the Great Unrest Weapons Pak. That poor set arrived right about the time my wife and I were moving and\u2026 I still haven\u2019t exactly figured out where it ended up. I\u2019m thinking I may just break down and buy a new one with my order later this month. Oops. <\/p>\n

But, the newest Weapons Pak, End of Wars, arrived late last week and rather than lose it too, I figured I\u2019d better get it open and reviewed quickly as the final review for MOTU Classics Week! (Well, technically, now that I think about it there is a Bonus Saturday Review coming tomorrow!) <\/p>\n

This newest Weapons Pak is a mixture of awesome and aggravating. It should\u2019ve been the most awesome. Clocking in at $20, it is the most expensive set of the four, but the price seemed worth it at the outset. The piece count is about the same, but as the Great Unrest set upgraded these packs with original (pre-tooled, but unreleased) weapons, the End of Wars set stepped things up another notch by including Kowl. Putting the little pack-in figures in a set like this is an inspired idea, particularly for Kowl, who could feasibly be done in multiple color schemes\u2026 hold on, let\u2019s save Kowl for a little later. <\/p>\n

As you can see, the set has some really fun colorway choices \u2013 more attachments for Trap-Jaw & Roboto are always welcome, I love the neon green He-Man weapons, the gold Palace Guard gear, a blue sword for the accessory-challenged Netossa, and even Laser Lot\u2019s gear in standard (or powered down?) grey. Some previously unreleased pieces are included too like the much-needed Rattlor Armor and Strobo\u2019s rifle. Actually, I think I just listed the entire contents of the Weapon\u2019s Pak! <\/p>\n

See, on paper, nothing here is a miss. I love all of it. I might even go as far as to say that these are some of the best choices yet with Kowl being the icing on the Weapons Pak. But things fell apart in execution. Mattel cheaped out on the paint. Big time. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know the reality of what this cost to produce. I don\u2019t know that most fans would\u2019ve paid an extra $5 to get more paint (I would\u2019ve, and including Kowl easily retains a $25 value to me). I will refrain from second guessing Mattel because I don\u2019t know the circumstances, but I will say that a lot of these weapons are worse for skipping the paint apps. The green He-gear would look sweeter if the sword\u2019s blade and ax edges carried the same goldish\/bronze paint that is on the shield. The molded gold weapons desperately need a sheen only paint provides. The same is true for the dull grey pieces for Roboto \u2013 they just don\u2019t match the silver, blue accented pieces from previous sets. Netossa\u2019s sword needs metallic blue on the blade. <\/p>\n

I think Laser Lot\u2019s shield & mace, Rattlor\u2019s Armor, and Kowl are the only pieces where I don\u2019t feel like I need to break out the paints. I don\u2019t know \u2013 if you bought this, would you have tossed a few extra dollars at Mattel to get more paint? Heck, would some of you have just paid a little more just to get Kowl? <\/p>\n

Kowl really is the highlight of the set. I\u2019m used to him from the cartoon, so he\u2019s not quite orange enough for me, but I don\u2019t mind if this is the only version we get (I kinda doubt it will be). Mattel seemed to know he would be a big attraction as few corners were cut with him compared to the weapons. The paint looks good and I\u2019m thankful for the cut articulation at the neck and shoulders. He\u2019s a sharp piece and one of the highlights of the set for me. <\/p>\n

Overall, it\u2019s not a bad set. If a few people wanted to laud it for its color selections, I\u2019d partially agree, but even with Vault & I splitting shipping, I still paid about $27 for this thing and the lack of paint leaves some weapons looking more like they belong with 90s toys than the premiere toy line that MOTUC normally feels like. That\u2019s a bummer and the set primarily overcomes the poor execution thanks to Kowl and some great color choices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
