I\u2019m not a huge Wolverine fan.\u00a0 I like the character enough, but I don\u2019t really go out of my way to support him. \u00a0In my entire toy buying life I may have picked up three or four figures, but I couldn\u2019t even tell you where all of them are right now.\u00a0 So I was a bit surprised when I ran across his newest Marvel Select incarnation over the weekend, and I couldn\u2019t stop myself from buying him.<\/p>\n

\"wolv01\"<\/p>\n

There are a few reasons why this is a great figure, and I\u2019ll definitely go over all of them.\u00a0 But the greatest feature of this figure, and what definitely cinched the deal for me, was how perfect the likeness is to Hugh Jackman.\u00a0 I\u2019m always amazed at how perfect Hot Toys can reproduce an actor\u2019s likeness, and I\u2019m also envious that the same eye for detail is rarely reproduced in six inch scale.\u00a0 But it seems the toy planets have aligned, and Marvel Select has created the perfect little Hugh Jackman figure.<\/p>\n

\"wolv02\"<\/p>\n

The figure\u2019s overall sculpt is pretty damned perfect.\u00a0 He\u2019s naked from the waist up and ripped with a muscular build, but it\u2019s not bulging like a superhero.\u00a0 Instead we have Jackman\u2019s more sinewy physique that adds more realism to the figure than the average spandex clad brute.<\/p>\n

\"wolv03\"<\/p>\n

From the waist down Wolverine is wearing military or cargo style pants with combat boots (and a sensible belt!).\u00a0 The sculpt of the pants are baggy and add a nice amount of contrast to the upper body.\u00a0 The boots also have a nice amount of detail with laces, soles, and even seem lines and wrinkles sculpted in.<\/p>\n

\"wolv04\"<\/p>\n

But the face sculpts are what really brings life to this little figure.\u00a0 That\u2019s right, sculpts.\u00a0 Wolvie has three different heads, each with a very distinct look.\u00a0 First is the normal expression.\u00a0 But even his vanilla head isn\u2019t expressionless.\u00a0 There\u2019s definitely a hint of determination (or is that annoyance?) in his eyes.<\/p>\n

\"wolv05\"<\/p>\n

The second head has a perfect snarling expression.\u00a0 Logan\u2019s teeth are gritted and you can tell he\u2019s just pissed off because another red haired girlfriend just died and he\u2019s surrounded by a ninja horde who has no clue what they just wandered into.<\/p>\n

\"wolv06\"<\/p>\n

Head number three is Logan in full-on rage mode as he\u2019s screaming out his rage for all those dead red heads.\u00a0 I particularly love the look in his eyes. They\u2019re open wide and almost bulging out of his head, giving the whole figure a much more intense look.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

\"wolv07\"<\/p>\n

While the sculpt does the heavy lifting in making this figure great, it\u2019s the paint job that really propels into fantastic territory.\u00a0 The torso and upper body have been molded in a light flesh color and have been given a nice dry brush with a slightly lighter shade.\u00a0 There also seems to be a darker shade airbrushed onto the recessed parts of his skin.\u00a0 These three colors work perfectly together to give the figure a more realistic skin tone that\u2019s full of small imperfections and differences.\u00a0 There\u2019s even hair painted onto his chest and forearms to add to the effect.<\/p>\n

\"wolv08\"<\/p>\n

While the majority of paint apps seem to be above the belt, Logan still has some nice detail added to his green pants and black boots.\u00a0 The pants in particular have a reddish brown wash that makes them look dirty, or maybe even covered in dried blood.\u00a0 The boots are bit simpler with just a light dry brushing of brown dirt.<\/p>\n

\"wolv09\"<\/p>\n

The figure\u2019s articulation is pretty extensive.\u00a0 He has a double ball jointed head and a single ball joint in his chest.\u00a0 His shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles are all swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 The biceps, thighs, and boot tops are swivel joints.\u00a0 His elbows are hinged, while his knees are double hinged.\u00a0 He\u2019s a bit limited when leaning forward at the torso joint, and I wish his elbows were also double hinged.\u00a0 Aside from that the figure hasn\u2019t had any issues taking on standard or dynamic poses.<\/p>\n

\"wolv10\"<\/p>\n

Along with the alternate heads, this figure also comes with three sets of hands.\u00a0 First are the normal hands which are posed for holding accessories.\u00a0 The next pair is the classic fists with metal claws extended.\u00a0 The last set is one fist and one open hand with bone claws extended.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always been a fan of Logan\u2019s bone claws and getting the option to choose your favorite Wolverine look is perfect.<\/p>\n

\"wolv11\"<\/p>\n

Aside from the alternate hands, Wolverine comes with a samurai sword.\u00a0 The sword has a great sculpt and has a nice amount of painted detail with silver, gold, and black apps.\u00a0 This is one of those pieces that aren\u2019t necessary for the figure, but it\u2019s definitely a nice touch.<\/p>\n

\"wolv12\"<\/p>\n

The sculpt, paint, articulation, and alternate heads\/hands make this figure damned near perfect.\u00a0 Even while writing this review I couldn\u2019t help but put him in various poses attacking my other figures.\u00a0 My only real complaint with him is that he\u2019s in seven inch scale, and towers over most of the figures I want to pose him with.\u00a0 But a great figure is a great figure, no matter what the scale.\u00a0 And this little Hugh Jackman clone is going to get some prime real estate on my shelves.
