I recently realized that I have quite the backlog of Sentai and Kamen Rider SH Figuarts.\u00a0 This is mostly because I like to review new things over old, promoting what I like that\u2019s currently available.\u00a0 While I like the Figuarts line, most of my purchases are a result of having a little extra money to burn or being at the right place and right time for a sale or deal.\u00a0 But since I don\u2019t have a lot of new imports on order, I thought I\u2019d fill in those slots with figures that I really enjoy but haven\u2019t said much about.<\/p>\n

In a world where cybernetic bug men use super powered martial arts to defeat evil organizations and mutant monsters, I think Kamen Rider Amazon still takes the cake for being the most unique (and craziest) of all the Riders.\u00a0 After a tragic plane crash, young Daisuke Yamamoto grew up wild and alone in the Amazon Rainforest.\u00a0 But when the ten faced demon Gorgos attacks his adopted village, the elder chief uses Incan science magic contained within the powerful GiGi armlet to transform the boy into the lizard-like Amazon.\u00a0 Diasuke then travels to Japan to stop Gorgos and his evil organization Geddon from taking over the world.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t know any of that pretty fantastic back story when I bought Amazon.\u00a0 It\u2019s really just icing on the cake, because I actually wanted this figure just based on his look alone.\u00a0 Most of the Showa Riders look kind of similar with their insect motifs.\u00a0 This makes Amazon\u2019s striped lizard look stand out in both style and in personality on the shelf.\u00a0 He almost looks more like one of the monsters they\u2019d fight.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the head sculpt that really brings character to this figure.\u00a0 He has similar buggy compound eyes, but the fin-like shape of the head and the inclusion of an articulated mouth allow Amazon to pull off some really fun and lighthearted expressions, especially when surrounded by his more serious bug brethren.\u00a0 On my shelf he always looks like the life of the party.<\/p>\n

Amazon\u2019s sculpt even gives him a different posture.\u00a0 Since he acts and fights like a wild animal, he\u2019s always hunched forward a bit.\u00a0 The fin on his back keeps him from standing too straight, but it\u2019s also articulated and allows him to bend pretty far forward while retaining a mostly connected look.<\/p>\n

Paint wise, this is probably one of the more impressive Figuarts I\u2019ve seen.\u00a0 Amazon\u2019s entire body is covered in wavy erratic red stripes and I haven\u2019t noticed any paint slop or bleeding into the green areas.\u00a0 His chest armor is also an interesting light yellow that gradiates into an orange\/red.\u00a0 Even the small details like the red dots on his belt and arm band are expertly placed.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Like all SH Figuarts, Amazon has an impressive amount of articulation.\u00a0 His jaw and toes are hinged.\u00a0 His head, neck, chest, waist, hips, and ankles are all ball joints.\u00a0 Shoulders are ball joints attached to swivel hinges, while his wrists are normal swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 His elbows and knees are double hinged, while his thighs have swivels.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a bit of extra articulation on his suit.\u00a0 His pecs and the middle fin on his back are all on ball joints.\u00a0 This allows you to resituate them to help the figure look less awkward in certain positions.<\/p>\n

Amazon comes with a ton of accessories, starting with his extra hands.\u00a0 There are open claw-like, fists, and holding.\u00a0 There\u2019s also one extra right hand with his four fingers spread.\u00a0 This is for his finishing move, which I\u2019ll get to in a second.<\/p>\n

Along with the hands, Amazon also has extra costume parts.\u00a0 He comes with two scarves: one normal and one windblown.\u00a0 His arm band can be removed and replaced with the full version, where both halves are connected.<\/p>\n

Amazon also comes with an alternate belt piece, where the handle is detached.\u00a0 He can hold the unattached handle as is, or it can also be replaced by a long rope\/whip weapon.<\/p>\n

Last but not least is Amazon\u2019s effects piece.\u00a0 Unlike the other Riders that use kicks for their finishing moves, Amazon uses a chop.\u00a0 So his effects piece is two large mantis-like slashes that connect over that extra right hand.\u00a0 I have to say this is my favorite effect from any of the Riders so far.\u00a0 It\u2019s distinct and looks much more devastating than the energy kicks.<\/p>\n

I have a couple more Showa Riders to pick up before my set is complete.\u00a0 While I\u2019ve been happy with each purchase, Amazon is my favorite so far.\u00a0 The figure\u2019s zany personality easily comes out in pictures and makes shelf posing more of a scene than a lineup.<\/p>\n
