They are the missing figures. The characters toy companies never got around to, never thought were important enough, or worse – the figures companies felt the need to show us at comicon in the “We’re Never Gonna Make These” case…

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last year, you know that MOTU Classics is the hottest toy line that’s not in stores. Personally, I love the line. The sculpts are amazing. The customer service is an adventure. And chances are, if one of your favorite characters was more humanoid than monster, you’ve already got them or know that they’ve got to be on the way.

Mattel has to keep tooling costs down see, so they’ve got to put those monster figures like Mantenna and Modulok off as long as possible. But the well of humanoid characters may not be deep enough for Mattel’s needs. They’ll need to dig deeper. To buy a few extrA months, they can look to those strange, unnamed characters from the Monogram model kits or they can go back to the classic Grayskull poster and finally get to that guy in the Wind Raider. You know the one. You’re looking across the Grayskull poster, reading all the characters names and suddenly you see him and go, “wait, who that’s that guy in the Wind Raider”.

Okay, so I admit that I’m being more than a little facetious. I think all fans would agree that we’d like to see Mattel start dipping into the more monstrous characters before getting to someone as obscure as the guy in the Wind Raider – he needs a name… how about Wind Raider Pilot? Anyway, yeah, we want the Snakemen. Yeah, we want the Horde. But at the same time, I bet some of us would like to see the Wind Raider Pilot find his way into the line. He deserves his proper place in MOTUdom.

I mean, think about the poor guy. He’s older than the Snakemen and He-Ro. He’s way older than Zodak. And he’s been sitting in that Wind Raider, without a name, since I was in grade school for cryin’ out loud. What do we even know about him? Unless he stole the Wind Raider (his direction on the poster could go either way), we can assume he’s a Heroic Master. But what does his face look like under that blue armor? Or is that blue armor his face? None of us know and it’s high time Mattel told us. Or at least made something up and told us that. Whatever’s fine with me.

It’s time to work him into the Motuverse, Mattel! To find out if he’s blue or if he wears blue armor. To find out if he’s there by choice or because Man-At-Arms performed some horrible surgery on him. To find out what that red stripe on his chest means to him. The fans want to know. Well, I do anyway.

Now Mattel, my asking for the Wind Raider Pilot’s place in the bonus figure schedule doesn’t mean I don’t want all those uniquely tooled monster figures. I want them – and the sooner the better, but I want this unnamed hero too. He needs his day. He’s been waiting for a quarter-of-a-century.

[7,18,10
345,16,2563,2560,344
After three long years, Masters of the Universe Classics finally has its very first vehicle.
