<\/a><\/p>\nI had originally planned to review a MOTU Classics figure today, but Boba showed up in the mail yesterday and I couldn\u2019t wait to get his review out for everyone to see.\u00a0 The San Diego Comic-con 2013 exclusive Boba Fett is technically the first figure release of the new six inch Star Wars Black line. \u00a0If this figure is any indication of what the Black series is going to produce, then this is going to be one of the top contenders for \u201cToy Line of the Year\u201d.<\/p>\n
For the first time ever fans are finally getting a nicely detailed and super articulated six inch Star Wars toy line.\u00a0 Normally I\u2019d complain about how long it took to get to this point, but as I look over this figure I can\u2019t help but think that figures like this wouldn\u2019t have been realistically possible until now.<\/p>\n A big part of that reasoning is the rise of the Adult Collector market.\u00a0 That\u2019s still a fairly new and unexplored idea for US toy makers.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure that this six inch Black line also owes its creation to the Vintage Collection series.\u00a0 Even though they were just three inch scale, the Vintage Collection produced some of the most detailed and articulated figures to spring from the brand.\u00a0 Hasbro simply put two and two together to realize that us big kids have the money to waste and want a more substantial collection.<\/p>\n So as you can probably tell already, I\u2019m extremely happy with this figure.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t go so far as to say he\u2019s perfect, because there are a couple of issues.\u00a0 But you\u2019re definitely going to hear a lot of gushing in this review, most of which is geared toward his sculpt.\u00a0 Boba has an all new sculpted body that\u2019s pretty dead on when it comes to likeness.\u00a0 The character already has such a unique look and the figure does a fantastic job of bringing it to life in toy form.<\/p>\n It\u2019s all the tiny details that really draw you in though.\u00a0 The costume itself is wrinkled, but when you look closer you can actually see seams and the texture pattern of the fabric.\u00a0 Both arm bracers are covered in little buttons and mechanical devices, while the overall design of the armor is covered in sculpted scars and pockmarks.\u00a0 He has a couple of extra pockets on the shins of his pants, and shoes are tipped with little metal spikes.\u00a0 He even has a wire running from his right bracer and up into his sleeve.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never even noticed that before on the character.<\/p>\n One thing that surprised me was how much I like the cape that hangs off his left shoulder.\u00a0 I\u2019m not usually a fan of fabric on action figures.\u00a0 But this figure helped convince me that it can be done correctly.\u00a0 The tattered effect really adds to the overall worn down and beaten look of his armor, and the fabric itself is hard enough to hold very simple poses.<\/p>\n While all of Boba\u2019s sculpted details are great, they\u2019re made even better by the highlights from his paint job.\u00a0 What jumped out at me when I first opened the figure were all the silver splotches that show where his armor has been damaged and the paint has flaked off.\u00a0 On further inspection you can also see a dingy gray wash on the figures legs, which gets darker the further down it goes.\u00a0 Both of these apps do a great job of making Boba\u2019s armor look used and a beat to hell.\u00a0 Definitely a figure that\u2019s been through some stuff, and the rest of your toys should stay clear.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n Another aspect of this line that I\u2019m very happy about is the articulation.\u00a0 With the smaller figures, sometimes certain joints had to be left out due to cost, or even just the area being too small to articulate.\u00a0 The six inch Black series seems to be over those issues.\u00a0 First thing that impressed me was his head articulation.\u00a0 There\u2019s no head underneath.\u00a0 The helmet has been popped onto a large ball joint that\u2019s connected to a hinge.\u00a0 This gives him the wide range and slight angles of a ball joint, while the hinge allows the head to straight up or down.<\/p>\n Boba\u2019s waist and hips are also regular ball joints, allowing the figure even more natural poses like leaning or slouching.\u00a0 His shoulders, elbows, and wrists are all swivel\/hinges that ratchet so he can keep his poses easier.\u00a0 The ankles are also swivel hinges, but put in at an angle so they also work as rockers.<\/p>\n Boba has swivel joints at the bracers just below the elbow, and his thighs.\u00a0 There\u2019s also an extra swivel joint on his right bicep, allowing him to hold his gun more naturally.\u00a0 Last are his double hinged knees.\u00a0 You can get some really nice dynamic poses out of all this articulation.\u00a0 Unfortunately his hips are hindered moving forward by the hard plastic pouches that hang off of his belt.<\/p>\n Boba comes with four accessories.\u00a0 First is his backpack, which simply plugs into his back.\u00a0 It\u2019s sculpted well, but in general it looks a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the figure.\u00a0 It probably could have used a few more paint apps, but it still looks fine on the figure.<\/p>\n Boba also comes with his rifle and pistol.\u00a0 Both pieces have excellent sculpting, but they did use softer plastic on them.\u00a0 This is especially noticeable on the rifle, which can look bent if he\u2019s holding it wrong.<\/p>\n Boba also comes with Han Solo in Carbonite.\u00a0 For being a large rectangle of plastic, the sculptors did a fantastic job of adding in a ton of detail.\u00a0 The carbonite block itself has those rocky textures, while Han\u2019s tortured and wrinkled imprint tries to push out.\u00a0 There are even little technical looking panels on the either side.\u00a0 The carbonite block has also been colored in a dark metallic gray with a black wash to pull out those details.<\/p>\n Carbonite Han also comes with a little stand that allows for the figure to look like it\u2019s either hovering over the ground or standing up on display.\u00a0 This is definitely a nice touch that I\u2019m glad they
