I\u2019ve been looking forward to for a while is the Giant God Warrior from Good Smile Co\u2019s Figma line.\u00a0 Not only is he a visually interesting character, but he\u2019s also the first collaboration between the Figma line and Studio Ghibli!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This particular version of the Giant God Warrior is from the recent short film <i>A Giant Warrior Descends on Tokyo<\/i>.\u00a0 The film was produced by Anno Hideaki, most notable for <i>Neon Genesis Evangelion<\/i>, for a special exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.\u00a0 The entire short film can be seen below and is safe for work.\u00a0 Unfortunately there are no subtitles, but the visuals are pretty amazing, if not a bit bleak.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dailymotion.com\/embed\/video\/xzc0u2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The history of the Giant God Warriors goes all the way back to Hayao Miyazaki\u2019s 1982 Nausica\u00e4 of the Valley of the Wind manga, which was also later adapted into an animated film.\u00a0 Taking place in a post-apocalyptic future, the story centers on Princess Nausica\u00e4 and chronicles her attempts to bring about a peaceful coexistence between warring kingdoms, as well as between humanity and nature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23607\" alt=\"ggw1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw1.jpg?resize=640%2C584\" width=\"640\" height=\"584\" story, God Warriors are giant biomechanical creatures that played a large part in the apocalypse, known as The Seven Days of Fire.\u00a0 They have the ability to fly by \u201ctwisting space\u201d and can fire devastating energy beams which are powered by their nuclear core.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the story, the God Warriors are considered extinct and remnants of their ceramic skeletons are a common sight across the landscape.\u00a0 But later, one is discovered and accidentally activated.\u00a0 It has the mentality of a child until Nausica\u00e4 is able to unite it with its missing core component.\u00a0 Once complete it begins to mature considerably, even discussing justice and how he is \u201ctasked to judge mankind\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23609\" alt=\"ggw3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw3.jpg?resize=640%2C609\" width=\"640\" height=\"609\" figure itself is one of the most detailed Figmas I\u2019ve ever seen.\u00a0 The line tends to lean towards the simpler design of anime characters, but being from more of a live action source, the God Warrior has an amazing amount of detail.\u00a0 Like an anatomy drawing from a horror movie, he is covered with visible muscle and intertwining veins.\u00a0 There are even areas like his spine and joints where bits of his skeleton are poking through.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23610\" alt=\"ggw4\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw4.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw4.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw4.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw4.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the God Warrior\u2019s head shows strands of muscle and nerve, it is mostly a helmet shaped skull.\u00a0 Large gangly teeth hand down directly off the top, while much smaller ones sit in a more natural position on his bottom jaw.\u00a0 The figure is given even more life by his eyes, which are separate pieces that are made out of a translucent green plastic.\u00a0 Although my camera had a difficult time catching it, they tend to look glowing when light glints off of them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23612\" alt=\"ggw6\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw6.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw6.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw6.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw6.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The figure is molded in a dark muddy red plastic with plenty of dry brushing in light brown to bring out all the different textures of his muscles and veins.\u00a0 These dark colors mostly go unbroken except for a few small metallic green circles that dot the front of his torso.\u00a0 The spikes that stick up out of his upper chest and back are also a bit different.\u00a0 They\u2019ve been done in a translucent plastic and colored with a yellowish energy look.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itsalltrue.net\/?p=23602&amp;page=2\">Continue to page 2&#8230;<\/a><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23605\" alt=\"ggw8\" God Warrior has a nice amount of articulation also.\u00a0 His jaw is hinged, while his head is on a double ball joint.\u00a0 His torso and hips are also ball joints.\u00a0 The wrists are swivel\/hinge pin joints, while his neck, shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles are all swivel hinges.\u00a0 The use of a more rubbery plastic around most of these joints also means that there is little limitation from the sculpt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23611\" alt=\"ggw5\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw5.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw5.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw5.jpg?resize=300%2C225 of the God Warriors accessories are alternate body parts.\u00a0 He comes with two sets of hands, one holding and one open.\u00a0 There\u2019s also an alternate neck\/head piece in attack mode.\u00a0 Its mouth is wide open with teeth pushed forward and a gun barrel-like nozzle sticking out his throat and an energy effect.\u00a0 Lastly are his alternate shoulder blades with fully extended wings.\u00a0 The wings are done in a hard translucent plastic with orange energy effects colored along the spines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23613\" alt=\"ggw7\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw7.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw7.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw7.jpg?resize=300%2C225 from the Figma stand, God Warriors only other accessory is a long energy spear.\u00a0 This piece was also done in a trans plastic.\u00a0 The majority of the staff is a light energy yellow coloring, while the tips are clear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23608\" alt=\"ggw2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/ggw2.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" around I\u2019m pretty happy with how the God Warrior came out.\u00a0 He already had such a unique design, and all the sculpted details and painted effects bring it out even more.\u00a0 Hopefully this will bode well for future collaborations.\u00a0 Studio Ghibli has created some fantastic properties that I would love to see done, and I think Good Smile Co. has proven they can handle it with this
