<\/a> I am seriously backed up on G.I. Joe Reviews. I happily subbed to the Joe FSS (& the Joe FSS 2.0) and, so far, only the first month\u2019s figures have made it to the site. Did I mention I have all thirteen? Oops! And here I am reviewing the Membership Joe instead of a subscription Joe… Double Oops! <\/p>\n

Long-time IAT readers know that I\u2019ve been clamoring for \u201cMore 25th Anniversary Joes<\/a>\u201d for years. So long, that I\u2019ve technically been clamoring for More 30th Anniversary Joes! The last four years have been somewhat kind to me \u2013 eight of the ten Joes I highlighted in that article four years have been produced (Gung Ho in Dress Blues now tops my list) and three of those have come about via the G.I. Joe Club. Iceberg is the latest as their 2013 Membership figure.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s both good and bad that Iceberg ended up as the Membership figure. On the one hand, I\u2019m super-excited to finally have an update of him, but I\u2019m not entirely thrilled with what the Club put together to get him out. That\u2019s partially because the Hasbro updates have moved into \u201camazing\u201d territory \u2013 Low-Light, Lifeline, & Sci-Fi are prime examples, but the Club also doomed themselves a bit \u2013 both Dial-Tone & Footloose received nicer figures than Iceberg as well. <\/p>\n

I shouldn\u2019t be so hard on Iceberg. There was a lot done right on him, but there are two areas where he falls a little short. One I intend to fix – a lower portion for the jacket. I\u2019ve just got to scavenge one from another Joe and paint it to match. As you can see from the photoshopped image below, it really helps balance the figure and gives some much needed bulk around the waist & hips. <\/p>\n

But the other thing, I\u2019m pretty much out of luck on: the head. Now, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s as bad as some folks say, but it\u2019s definitely a downgrade from what we\u2019re used to when looking at previous Club Membership & Subscription figures. Now, I haven\u2019t followed up on all the news and rumors about the head. I\u2019ve heard crazy things like the production factory used an original Iceberg head instead of the newly sculpted one (the original was sent for color matching). I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s that elaborate a thing or not, but I do find this head lacking the detail-level we’ve gotten used to. It definitely keeps Iceberg out of the front of the shelf where I\u2019d want to place him and gets him mixed into the middle to hide some of the figure\u2019s flaws. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

While Iceberg the figure has some disappointing areas, I am happy that the figure is loaded with accessories. There are two rifles, a snowboard with flip-out wings, a bazooka and shell, a knife, the backpack, and an attachment for the pack that holds both the bazooka and the snowboard. Also included is a pretty sweet all-white stand (which you\u2019ll need if you intend to load him down with all that gear). <\/p>\n

The articulation is another highlight on the figure with ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles. There are also double-hinged knees and the jointed torso. The figure moves great and can pose well with the board or any of the weapons. <\/p>\n

Paint was a bit of an issue around the helmet\u2019s edge on the head. That may contribute to the awkwardness of the head, but I still think the sculpt isn\u2019t doing the overall look any favors. Below the neck everything was painted pretty well. And even though I\u2019m not in love with the figure, it\u2019s great seeing these colors again. I think those were one of the reasons I\u2019d loved the Iceberg figure as a kid. <\/p>\n

Overall, this Iceberg isn’t great, but it still comes in as decent. I\u2019d love to see Hasbro tackle this guy again someday though. Heck, I want Hasbro to get back in gear on the Winter Joes. Those were some of my favorites as a kid, but they\u2019re largely unrepresented in the modern era. Some of the guys, like Frostbite, technically have modern figures that use the name, but not the look. That\u2019s not doing it for me. We need a real update for Frostbite as well as figures of Blizzard, Whiteout, Cold Front, Avalanche, etc. Maybe I need to bring the Most Requested for some more Snow Joes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
