\"\"<\/a>If there\u2019s one line I collect for no discernable reason, it\u2019s definitely SH Figuarts Kamen Riders. \u00a0I\u2019ve never seen any of the series and know next to nothing about the characters, but for some reason I really love the Showa Era designs, especially with the amazing articulation of a Figuarts.<\/p>\n

My most recent purchase in the quest to have a complete Showa roster is Riderman, who is a pretty unique character in Kamen Rider history.\u00a0 He is recognized as the official fourth Rider, yet he never had his own TV series and instead appeared as a supporting character in Kamen Rider V3\u2019s.\u00a0 He is the only Rider to have a partially exposed face.\u00a0 He also departed from the first three Riders by relying on a combination of intelligence and utilities housed in his prosthetic arm instead of superhuman strength.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Riderman\u2019s character was also more complex than his predecessors, becoming more of an antihero than a clean cut good guy.\u00a0 He started out as a loyal scientist to the evil organization Destron.\u00a0 But he was accused of treason by a jealous colleague and lost his right arm while being tortured.\u00a0 Even after all that he was still loyal to Destron, and only sought revenge against the one who betrayed him.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t until V3 showed him the truth about the organization that he joined the fight to stop Destron.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Riderman is done in a more realistic style than some of the previous characters.\u00a0 He actually looks like a little person in a costume, with all the little wrinkles and frumpyness that entails in certain areas.\u00a0 I actually like this more than the super sleek, almost cartoon-like proportions of some of the other characters.\u00a0 His belt and upper torso are also nicely detailed with sculpted line work and small details like button and pouches.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The more realistic portrayal works especially well with his head sculpt.\u00a0 His facial sculpt looks a bit plain, but there are very subtle details that allow his expression to change depending on what angle you\u2019re looking at.\u00a0 This is such a rare quality for a toy to have, and I really appreciate when a sculptor can bring this aspect out in a figure instead of the static looks that most toys get.<\/p>\n

One other interesting thing to note is that while Riderman does have bulging helmet eyes, they aren\u2019t compound bug eyes like his comrades.\u00a0 Definitely a nice little touch to literally make him more human than the other Riders.<\/p>\n

Like most SH Figuarts, Riderman\u2019s articulation is insanely awesome.\u00a0 His head, neck, upper chest, waist and ankles are all ball joints.\u00a0 His shoulders are swivel\/hinges attached to a ball joint, while his hips are ball joints attached to hinges.\u00a0 His elbows and knees are double hinged.\u00a0 His wrists are swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 He\u2019s got swivels at his biceps and thighs, and his toes are hinged.\u00a0 If all that\u2019s not enough, they also gave the pectoral pads on his suit ball joints so they don\u2019t get in the way of his arm articulation.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

As if all that wasn\u2019t enough, Riderman also comes with a ton of accessories.\u00a0 First there\u2019s the standard assortment of four sets of alternate hands: fists, holding, open, and flat.\u00a0 Riderman also comes with two neck scarves.\u00a0 The first is designed to be draped over his shoulder, while the second is in a wild split pose for action.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Riderman\u2019s other accessories are his many arm attachments.\u00a0 There\u2019s his Power Arm, which has a cycle-like attachment.\u00a0 His Drill Arm, which has\u2026 a drill.\u00a0 Those two arms are complete as is.\u00a0 The third attachment is his Rope Arm, which looks like two balls.\u00a0 This arm can hold either the hook or kama weapons.\u00a0 It can also be combined with the short rope pieces to form a mace and other flailing attacks.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a long rope piece that also works well for climbing or repelling.\u00a0 Even though Riderman\u2019s character only uses these devices on his right arm, both of the figure\u2019s arms can be replaced for some nifty looking duel wielding.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s rare for a toy line to be so appealing when I have no real connection to the characters themselves.\u00a0 But while I was writing this review, I couldn\u2019t help but put Riderman into four or five different poses just because he was sitting in front of me.\u00a0 At the end of the day, with their great design and articulation, these figures are just plain fun to play around with.<\/p>\n
