\"\"<\/a>To add to the celebration of MOTU\u2019s 30th anniversary there’s a new box set edition of He-Man\u2019s various animated incarnations.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure if I wanted this new collection, but the extras were just too tempting.\u00a0 I gave it a try, and I\u2019m actually pretty happy I did.<\/p>\n

This review is mostly going to be a breakdown of the packaging and contents.\u00a0 But for those of you who aren\u2019t familiar with this box set, it includes: all 130 episodes of the original Filmation MOTU cartoon, the top 20 \u201cfan favorite\u201d episodes of the New Adventures series, and all 39 episodes of the MYP series.\u00a0 There are also plenty of documentaries, character profiles, scripts, audio commentaries, and featurettes.\u00a0 Some of these bonuses we\u2019ve seen before on previous DVD sets.\u00a0 Others, like the Fans of MOTU documentary, are entirely new.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019m actually looking forward to seeing some of these new featurettes, especially the one on the fans.\u00a0 It\u2019s also great to have all of the original series and 200X in one place, I just wish New Adventures would have gotten the same treatment.\u00a0 I know that series gets a lot of flack, but it definitely has its merits.\u00a0 These may be the best episodes of that series, but it still feels wrong not having the complete thing.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The entire set comes packed in a clear plastic case.\u00a0 This serves the purpose of protecting the inner box and keeping it a nice square, since the castle on the front sticks out unevenly.\u00a0 The clear plastic on this outer case is a bit brittle, and unfortunately one of the inside flaps came broken on my copy.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The inner box is a very nice piece of work.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t tell from the original promo pictures, so I was surprised to see that the Castle Grayskull on the cover is a raised plastic mold.\u00a0 This definitely gives the box a neat effect.\u00a0 The version of this Grayskull is also very similar to the prototype we\u2019ve been shown for the new playset.\u00a0 So I guess we\u2019re getting a bit of a sneak peak at a plastic version of the castle.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The sides and back of the box feature some of that new fantastic art by Alvin Lee.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a Limited Edition sticker with the individual number of the set.\u00a0 Mine\u2019s 1135 of 15,000.<\/p>\n

The box itself opens up like a treasure chest revealing a neat new piece of art of various characters in battle.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure who the artist is though.\u00a0 (Anyone have that info?)\u00a0 There is also a nice bit of artwork with Grayskull\u2019s shield, helmet, and crossed swords on the bottom edge of the package.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Inside the box, packed in a velvet frame, is the gold power sword, DVDs, booklet and soundtrack.\u00a0 The DVDs themselves are all individually packaged in cardboard sleeves.\u00a0 I\u2019m not particularly fond of DVDs in sleeves, but I understand the need to keep the packaging from getting large.<\/p>\n

The booklet has a fantastic cover with the Filmation, New Adventures, and MYP Power Swords all crossed.\u00a0 That is awesome and I can\u2019t wait until I can do it with the toys as soon as New Adventures He-Man comes out.\u00a0 The booklet is chock full of synopsis on each episode and info on the bonuses.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The soundtrack comes in its own jewel case and has eleven tracks.\u00a0 It\u2019s mostly all the great incidental music that we all know and love from the Filmation series, but track eleven is a bit different.\u00a0 It\u2019s the Spanish version of the MOTU theme and has some great Spanish singing in between all the \u201cHe-Maaaan\u2019s\u201d.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you hard core fans have heard this before, but I hadn\u2019t and I think it\u2019s a great inclusion.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This may be sad, but it\u2019s true.\u00a0 My biggest reason for ordering this set, aside from completing my DVD collection, was to get the gold Power Sword.\u00a0 I love the crazy colored repainted weapons that come with MOTU figures, especially He-Man\u2019s iconic sword.\u00a0 The sword comes packaged in a little plastic bag, like the Power-Con Keldor sword.\u00a0 The sword is molded in a metallic gold color, but the blade has been painted with that yellow gold.\u00a0 You don\u2019t usually see these two versions of gold used together, so it makes for a really interesting design.\u00a0 Of course the problem with having a gold Power Sword is that now I need a gold shield and axe\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m pretty happy with this DVD set.\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely nice having all the Filmation and MYP series\u2019 in one place, but I do wish New Adventures had been given the same consideration.\u00a0 The sword, soundtrack, and booklet were also nice additions that helped ease the higher cost of this set.\u00a0 I also liked the box design much more than I expected.\u00a0 The 3D Grayskull really helped with that.\u00a0 Hopefully in the future we will see a similar set for Fimlation\u2019s Princess of Power.<\/p>\n
