\"\"<\/a>I\u2019ve been falling behind on my Transformers Prime reviews over the last few weeks, so I thought I\u2019d play a little catch-up and review two.\u00a0 Today I\u2019ve got the monstrous Darkness Megatron and the equally intimidating Arms Micron Dark Matter Calibur sword.<\/p>\n

Last April I picked up Takara\u2019s AM-05 Megatron figure<\/a>.\u00a0 Although I was happy with his design and his Arms Micron, I wasn\u2019t quite satisfied with his smaller Deluxe size.\u00a0 So when the preorder for the larger scaled AM-15 Darkness Megatron was announced I knew I had to snap it up.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Although Darkness Megatron shares the same basic design as his smaller counterpart, there\u2019s so much more to this figure to like.\u00a0 First off, he\u2019s a Voyager Class figure, which is truly the only way Megatron should ever be presented.\u00a0 His size gives the figure an intimidating edge and puts him perfectly in scale with his Deluxe Class minions.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But size isn\u2019t everything, and I\u2019m so glad I skipped Hasbro\u2019s release of this figure. \u00a0From what I\u2019ve seen there\u2019s nothing really wrong with Hasbro\u2019s version, it\u2019s just that Takara\u2019s Darkness Megs has so many addition features.\u00a0 Most noticeably are his new metallic head, chest, and shoulders.\u00a0 These chromed bits do a fantastic job of highlighting Megatron\u2019s menacing upper body and making a very stark contrast from his darker plastics.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The chromed bits aren\u2019t his only nice plastic feature.\u00a0 Darkness Megs also has a translucent purple chest, forearms, and eyes that allow for some really fantastic light piping energon action.\u00a0 These glowing purple pieces also serve to make him even more menacing with the look of Dark Energon flowing through his frame.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Since this is a Takara release, most of Megatron\u2019s paint apps have been replaced by stickers.\u00a0 But they did go ahead and paint the metallic purple areas of his legs and lower torso.\u00a0 The rest of the color variations on his body are molded black and gray plastic.\u00a0 All together these painted and molded pieces combine nicely with the translucent purple and chrome, so I didn\u2019t even see a need to use stickers on the main figure.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Megatron\u2019s articulation is decent.\u00a0 He\u2019s got a ball jointed head, shoulders and hips.\u00a0 His wrists, elbows, knees and ankles are all hinge joints.\u00a0 His forearms and thighs are swivels.\u00a0 This really does allow for some nice posing, but he isn\u2019t quite as limber as First Edition Starscream or Soundwave.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Darkness Megatron\u2019s alt mode is an odd looking Cybertronian space jet.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never really been thrilled with its design, but I do have to admit that the larger Darkness figure seems more thought out than the smaller Deluxe Megs.\u00a0 Or at the very least he doesn\u2019t have that cobbled together feel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Darkness Megs comes with two accessories, both of which are Arms Micron figures.\u00a0 First off is Gola 2, a robotic gorilla that transforms into his arm cannon.\u00a0 Gola 2 is very similar in design to Gola 1, which came with Deluxe Megatron.\u00a0 There are two major differences though.\u00a0 Gola 2 is larger, and he also doesn\u2019t have the two wing-like attachments that form the blade.\u00a0 Gola also comes with a sticker that allows for him to have a metallic eye.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Megatron\u2019s second accessory is the Arms Micron Hades, a huge bat that can turn into a double bladed scythe.\u00a0 I think Hades may be the largest Micron in the series up to this point, and he\u2019s definitely an intimidating looking figure in either mode.\u00a0 What makes him even cooler is that he attaches to Megatron\u2019s, giving him demonic wings.\u00a0 Hades is also entirely made out of translucent purple, so he adds even more of that glowing energon feel to Megatron\u2019s look.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Packed in my shipment with Darkness Megatron was also my order for three individual Arms Micron figures.\u00a0 Gabu, who transforms into a horseshoe crab and bladed crossbow looking gun.\u00a0 Baru, who can become a falcon or cleaver.\u00a0 Dai changes into a crocodile or four barreled gun.\u00a0 All three of these Decepticons have interesting designs and alt modes, but they definitely aren\u2019t the best Microns I\u2019ve seen.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I ordered these three specific ones specific figures because they combine to form a gargantuan sword called the Dark Matter Calibur.\u00a0 This Decepticon blade, which is nearly as tall as Megatron, is the coolest Arms Micron construct I\u2019ve seen so far.\u00a0 The thing is a properly massive anime sword and makes Darkness Megatron, an already imposing figure, even more badass.\u00a0 I don\u2019t see how Optimus could defend against a weapon like this, even with his special shield.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m extremely happy with Darkness Megatron.\u00a0 The only real issue I had with the figure is that his joints are a bit too weak, but aside from that he\u2019s just right.\u00a0 He\u2019s the perfect size for my collection, and the added translucent and chrome bits just make him look even more powerful.\u00a0 Then there\u2019s his extra Micron, Hades the bat.\u00a0 He\u2019s a figure that\u2019s almost too big to even be called a minicon, and he turns into a double bladed scythe.\u00a0 What\u2019s not to love there?\u00a0 Plus, with the Dark Matter Calibur sword in hand, he looks unstoppable.<\/p>\n

Darkness Megs will be a bit more expensive since he\u2019s an import.\u00a0 But if you\u2019re really interested in the Prime line, he\u2019s definitely worth the higher price.<\/p>\n
