\"\"<\/a>The four new Nickelodeon turtles are great toys, but I kept having this nagging suspicion that something was missing (you know, besides the Shellraiser and awesome new sewer playset that I can’t afford). Then I realized that the turtles are infinitely more fun when they have baddies to kick around.<\/p>\n

So hot on the heels of my Shredder guest review over at TheDaytimeNinja.com<\/a>, I thought I\u2019d do the loveable cannon fodder that is the Foot Soldier.<\/p>\n

One of my biggest Ninja Turtles influences as a kid was the TMNT Arcade game.\u00a0 This was an amazingly fun game that really ended influencing how I played with my turtle toys.\u00a0 My figures now fought in similar ways to the game by clearing an area of baddies and moving on to the next obstacle.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But even more influential was how the Foot Soldiers were portrayed.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Making the original characters robots allowed the turtle to be more violent against them, while at the same time giving me my first inspiration to army build using a single figure.\u00a0 It also showed me that Foot Soldiers came in many colors and were specially programmed for specific attacks and weapons.\u00a0 This also led me to a disappointing discovery that I\u2019d never get the army of rainbow colored robots that my turtles deserved.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Nick\u2019s new Foot Soldier definitely has its differences with the 80\u2019s Playmates version.\u00a0 The biggest is that the modern Foot Clan is made up of humans instead of robots.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really know how this plays out in the cartoon when it comes to violence, but I somehow doubt they explode when they get knocked unconscious.\u00a0 These new soldiers do have one advantage over the originals.\u00a0 Playmates has already made a red version of the figure that comes with the Dragon Chopper!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Foot Soldier has an entirely new body with a nice amount of detail to the sculpt.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s more complicated than the turtles, but it definitely looks better than the ultra plain design to Shredder\u2019s body.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m particularly happy with his compound eyes, more than likely due to Kamen Rider.\u00a0 I also like that his suit is a bit puffy, but his arms and legs are wrapped tight for battle.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

While his sculpt is detailed, his paint job isn\u2019t.\u00a0 But I\u2019m ok with that because ninjas aren\u2019t supposed to be techno colored.\u00a0 His body is mostly molded in black, but they did give him a nice dark gray for his forearms and shins.\u00a0 The compound eyes also have a neat speckled effect.<\/p>\n

I was definitely glad to see that the new Foot had decent articulation.\u00a0 His head, elbows, wrists, and waist are all swivel joints.\u00a0 His shoulders and hips are swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 Like with Shredder, I\u2019m really disappointed they didn\u2019t give his head a ball joint.\u00a0 But the swivel elbows work out great because they\u2019re at an angle, so you can still get some really interesting dynamic poses.\u00a0 He really could have used knee joints, but their lack doesn\u2019t hinder the figure too much.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Foot Soldier comes with a nice little supply of accessories.\u00a0 First up are his sword and dagger set.\u00a0 While these pieces look miniscule in Shredder\u2019s hands, they fit the Foot Soldiers really well.\u00a0 The Soldiers also come with two shuriken, which I\u2019m pretty sure is the most popular accessory of the line.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The throwing stars have a more traditional design than Shredders and lack that techno element.\u00a0 The Foot\u2019s last accessory is his sword sheaths.\u00a0 This is a single molded piece that easily holds both the sword and dagger at the same time.\u00a0 The sheaths are attached to his back with a peg and can be easily removed.\u00a0 This was a really nice touch that will help diversify this army builder.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019d definitely recommend the Foot Soldier.\u00a0 He\u2019s not a perfect figure, but he\u2019s definitely on the better end of this line.\u00a0 His most hindering feature is the articulation, but he still has enough to pull off some good action scene poses.\u00a0 He\u2019s a great army builder, and I really do enjoy taking pictures of my turtles beating them up.<\/p>\n
