For Son of Guest Review week, that spot goes to our man in Japan, Robert Baldwin (a.k.a. Dorkey!). Today, Robert is taking a look at the S.H. Figuarts Akiba Red!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"newsimages\/spacer.png\"><\/p>\n<p>After watching the first episode at a screening during Bandai&#8217;s Tamashii Features back in March, Akibaranger had quickly become my favorite Sentai.\u00a0 However S.H.Figuarts is the only action figure line that is releasing Akibaranger figures \u2013no S.I.C., no vinyl. So, here I am, wandering into Vault&#8217;s territory, perhaps stepping on his toes, with a review of my very first S.H.Figuarts figure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20925\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir01.jpg?resize=349%2C640\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir01.jpg?w=349 349w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir01.jpg?resize=163%2C300 163w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nobuo Akagi, a 29 year old bicycle courier for Sasaki Ponpoko Delivery (S.P.D.) in the Akihabara district in Tokyo is a hard core Sentai otaku.\u00a0 Nobuo, often spending his time fantasizing about becoming a hero, gets recruited as Akiba Red.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20926\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir02.jpg?resize=407%2C640\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir02.jpg?w=407 407w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir02.jpg?resize=190%2C300 190w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir02.jpg?resize=400%2C628 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Being more of a Kamen Rider fan, and preferring the dark hero image, most of my collection consists of the S.I.C. line. While very few of the Sentai have sparked my interest, the clean lines of the S.H.Figuarts action figures have been a bit of a turn-off for me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20927\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir03.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir03.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir03.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir03.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, with Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger, none of the rules matter. This Sentai fights in the realm of their imagination, they can be beat-up, torn-up and blown-up but at the end of a fight, completely refreshed \u2013 and that&#8217;s acceptable in this world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir04.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20928\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir04.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir04.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir04.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir04.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sculpt is excellent with great attention given to detail. Comparing the figure to photographs and video of the actual character, I can&#8217;t find a single thing to complain about. The articulation is what has become standard on most S.H.Figuarts figures and the design of the character works well with the build of the figure, allowing for efficient concealment of his joints. Additionally, the cuts in the biceps and thighs are completely hidden by an outer section which works like a sheath. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itsalltrue.net\/?p=20924&#038;page=2\">Continue to Page 2&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20929\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg?resize=480%2C490\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg?w=480 480w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg?resize=293%2C300 293w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg?resize=50%2C50 50w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir05.jpg?resize=400%2C408 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most of this figure appears to have been molded in the appropriate colors for each part. There are a few parts with paint applied but these are executed flawlessly.\u00a0 Also, printed on Akiba Red&#8217;s left leg and chest are the deformed katakana (a form of Japanese writing) letters for \u201cSentai\u201d as well as the logo for Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger on the left part of his chest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir06.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20930\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir06.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir06.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir06.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir06.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Accessories for this figure are quite limited. Akiba Red comes with six right hands and four left hands, including the clenched fists he is originally packed with.\u00a0 Other than this, he comes with two scarves and a gun\/action figure transformation object, Moe Moe Z-cune (MMZ-01).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir07.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20931\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir07.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir07.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir07.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir07.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another accessory, if you&#8217;re lucky enough to get a first release Akiba Red, is a set of three Tamashii Stage figure stands for Akiba Red, Blue and Yellow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir08.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20932\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir08.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir08.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir08.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir08.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are actually three more accessories for Akibaranger, but they will not be released with any of the Akibaranger figures. These accessories are the \u201cOutrageous Power\u201d granted to Akibaranger from three of the official Sentai and will be packed in with the appropriate Reds. These items are the Deka Wrapper (giant handcuffs), included with Deka Red \u2013 Bouken Scooper (shovel), packaged with Bouken Red \u2013 and Jet Winger (flight pack), as a bonus with Red Hawk from Jetman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir09.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20933\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir09.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir09.jpg?w=640 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir09.jpg?resize=300%2C225 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/akir09.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, the best part of this figure is the story it&#8217;s based on. In a world which is governed by the imagination, there are no rules \u2013 scale is not an issue when you are thinking about compatibility. Gumby, T-Rex and Barbie can all share shelf space with Akibaranger and it would be perfectly natural.
