<\/a>I\u2019ve said this before, but G.I. Joe was easily the biggest toyline from my childhood. I had my fair share of Transformers and MOTU. I treasured my comic-based figures and loved plenty of smaller lines too, but I had a ton of G.I. Joe toys. It was so different from today. <\/p>\n

Looking over my shoulder at my collection, I guess I still have a lot of Joes. I bet my wife would say so. I guess my feeling more Joe-less of late is just because there\u2019s so little product that I find worth buying. I know we\u2019re in the middle of this weird Retaliation-slash-nothing period and that\u2019s probably a large part of it, but it just seems that my Joe collection is being assembled exceptionally slowly right now, one Club or SDCC exclusive at a time. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to sound like I\u2019m only in this for the nostalgic figures. I\u2019ve actually come to like the figures that have been modernized quite a bit and new characters like Shadow Tracker have been great too. But there is just something seemingly better about classic, spot-on updates like Lifeline, Footloose, Sci-Fi, Crazylegs, etc. While I\u2019d be excited for Hasbro to wow me with a great new look or an all-new character, I still have to admit that I love these \u201cclassics\u201d. <\/p>\n

So, when Hasbro announced Jinx as the SDCC exclusive\u2026 I was annoyed. I really wanted Jinx, but I really had no expectation of getting her. In years past, I failed to get both Slaughter (still a hole in my collection) and Zarana (Vault just snagged me one at a con a few weeks ago, the price was okay<\/em>). I was so sure Jinx was a lost, or expensive, cause that I just kinda let her go. <\/p>\n

Luckily, I had a friend who offered to grab some exclusives for me from SDCC.*<\/p>\n

*- I\u2019m not sure if he would want me to \u2018out\u2019 him, so I\u2019ll keep his name to myself for now, but he knows he is and I know he\u2019s reading \u2013 so thank you<\/strong>. I have never enjoyed a convention I didn\u2019t attend so much. You removed the biggest annoyance for a middle-of-the-country collector and I\u2019m very grateful. Thank you. <\/em><\/p>\n

I think out of all the SDCC exclusives this year, Jinx is my favorite. Obviously, the opener should let everybody know that these Classic Joes would be near and dear to me, but what really helps is when the execution is what I want it to be. I\u2019ve got some love for figures like 25th Anniversary Mainframe or Doc, but those figures have some issues that I have to overlook. <\/p>\n

In a generic sense, Hasbro has basically made a female counterpart to the Renegades Storm Shadow. The sculpt here is just as good as SS, the anatomy spot-on, and there are some nice extra details like the addition of a blindfold sculpted over the mask. <\/p>\n

There are some deviations from her classic look. I originally thought that was because Jinx does share her figure with the modern Jinx from Retaliation<\/em>. The figure was also available in a limited variant white deco with an unmasked, movie head sculpt and a black\/yellow version will be available… sometime between now and next year. Some of the details like the covered feet, the wraps on the forearms, and the shin guards likely come from film details, but neither of them really explain why the neckline was changed. <\/p>\n

But you know what? I don’t really mind one bit. The open neck looks fine as do the covered feet and different cuffs. I did have to laugh because the folks at Hasbro managed to find an old comic image of Jinx where her neck was obscured so there\u2019d be no discrepancy though. Also, on a related packaging note. Jinx\u2019s real name is still listed as classified on the file card, but the file card has to call her Kim Arashikage. Might be time to update those file cards, Hasbro…<\/p>\n

Articulation is really good on this figure. I would say great, but the lack of thigh swivels did annoy me here or there while I was taking pictures. Jinx is pretty close to being on par with last year\u2019s Storm Shadow. The wrists are simple swivels instead of ball-joints, but that\u2019s understandable due to the small size. One big upgrade though is the ankles \u2013 Jinx features that new peg-in-the-foot I keep raving about. It really helps pose her because I can adjust those just about any way I need. There is one drawback here though \u2013 the peg holes are still in the heel of her feet and are too shallow for the standard stand. Oops. <\/p>\n

Paint was similarly good. The black detailing was sharp throughout, the dragon tampo looks great, and the eyes are painted well \u2013 all that\u2019s really not right here is the that exposed face isn\u2019t quite painted as fully as it should be. It\u2019s almost good enough to overlook. I know some of the pics make it look really noticeable, but luckily the head is only like a half-inch tall in real life and it looks sharp for the most part. <\/p>\n

For accessories, Jinx includes her classic staff (it\u2019s kinda her thing) and a pair of swords with a backpack to stow them in. I was a little disappointed by the pack because it\u2019s not the one shown in the press images, nor is it similar to the classic one. It\u2019s a minor nitpick, but I think she looks better with one sword over each shoulder and the backpack they substituted in leaves both swords going the same way. It still looks fine, but the press image looks better. <\/p>\n

Overall, I\u2019m very happy with this figure. Jinx was a big \u201cwhy didn\u2019t they make…\u201d figure for me when the line first switched to Rise of Cobra<\/em> product. I’ve still got a laundry list of Joes I want redone and I’d like to see Hasbro get back to figures like this at retail sooner rather than later, but for now I’ve at least got Club Exclusives and SDCC Exclusives to keep rounding out my collection. And there is that Joe subscription too. (man, I wish I knew what to do about that… I want to sign up, but the prices are killing me)<\/em><\/p>\n

Anyway, long story short, Jinx is another great entry in the 25th\/30th\/whatever Joe collection we’ve got going. It’s awesome to be able to add her in, but perhaps even better is that Hasbro now has a great generic female ninja buck. Let’s hope it seems some use beyond Jinx.
