\"\"<\/a>I had a whole other review planned out for today, but best laid plans go awry easily when you make a minor toy haul from Toys R Us.\u00a0 Not only did I discover the first wave of Transformers Prime, but also the new Marvel Legends!<\/p>\n

With the demise of the DC Universe, I\u2019ve found myself drawn more and more to Marvel lately.\u00a0 Journey into Mystery has become one of my favorite monthly books, and I\u2019m getting more and more interested in characters like Steve Rogers and Hope Summers.\u00a0 Not to mention X-Men vs. Avengers, that\u2019s going to be hard to stay away from.\u00a0 Now the return of Marvel Legends is just fueling my interest even more.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Before I get into the figure, I just want to talk about the packaging a bit.\u00a0 Normally I don\u2019t care much for packaging, but I actually like what Hasbro\u2019s trying to accomplish here.\u00a0 The layout and font of the words screams at you from the package, just like those old 90\u2019s comic book covers.\u00a0 I\u2019m also still impressed that Hasbro commissions an original piece of art for each figure on their respective box.\u00a0 These things are entirely unnecessary, but they sure do make for a great feel.\u00a0 I actually took time and studied the box before ripping it open and tossing it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So I decided to pick Hope Summers as my first new Marvel Legends figure.\u00a0 Not only is she an interesting, and fairly new character to the Marvel Universe, but Hope is also the first female figure of the new line and she looks pretty damned good.\u00a0 One of my biggest gripes with the old Marvel Legends is their persistent inability to produce an attractive looking female figure.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But in the last few years Hasbro has produced a new female \u201cbuck\u201d body that has well sculpted proportions and decent articulation.\u00a0 It\u2019s this body that the Hope Summers figure uses, with a few exceptions.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure her shin pieces are entirely new, with the greaves sculpted on.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll be seeing them again, but they\u2019d be perfect for warrior women like Sif or even an armored up Valkyrie.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you hard core fans could think of a few more.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hope\u2019s wrist bracers and tattered cape are made from the same sturdy but still flexible plastic.\u00a0 I\u2019m particularly fond of the worn and torn look of the sculpts.\u00a0 These pieces do a great job of giving her a battle-ready look, but they can also be removed if you\u2019d rather her look different.\u00a0 Her hands pop off easily at the wrists, while her head can be taken off of the large ball joint atop her neck.\u00a0 A very nice feature, whether it was intentional or not.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hope\u2019s head sculpt is what really makes this figure stand out.\u00a0 She isn\u2019t the prettiest female figure I\u2019ve ever seen, but her face is definitely attractive and has its own personality.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure this is also aided by her windblown hair, which has a very nice flowing shape to it.\u00a0 It really looks like it was sculpted specifically from a drawing.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Hope\u2019s paint is also good for the most part.\u00a0 The coloring on her face is just right, so she doesn\u2019t have that heavily applied makeup look.\u00a0 Her bracers and cape are molded a dark brown, but painted with light brown highlights to show a worn and dirty look.\u00a0 Her armor bits have a tarnished silver shine to them.\u00a0 Her body is molded in an almost metallic green and decorated with a yellow \u201cV\u201d pattern.\u00a0 The isn\u2019t consistently straight and the yellow does fade off in certain places, but this is the only real paint issue I\u2019ve had.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This is a body we\u2019ve seen before, so there\u2019s no real surprise with articulation.\u00a0 Her head is on a ball joint.\u00a0 Her shoulders, elbows, wrists, and ankles are all swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 I guess you\u2019d call those odd joints on her hips a swivel\/hinge also, but I\u2019m not entirely sure.\u00a0 I\u2019m also not really sure what you\u2019d call her chest joint.\u00a0 It\u2019s kind of like an ab crunch, but doesn\u2019t allow for as much movement.\u00a0 Last but not least, her knees are double hinged.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Aside from her clothing bits that are removable, Hope also comes with a decent sized rifle of some sort.\u00a0 Hope learned how to fight and survive from Cable, so it makes perfect sense that her weapon of choice is a humongous gun.\u00a0 Her figure can even hold the gun pretty well, which can sometimes be in question with the smaller hands on female figures.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hope\u2019s Build-a-Figure pieces are Terrax\u2019s\u00a0 head and huge axe.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I\u2019m going to be building Terrax, but both pieces look good from what I can tell.\u00a0 I particularly enjoy giving the axe to Hope.\u00a0 I think Cable would approve.\u00a0 One thing I was surprised to see was a small instruction pamphlet inside the package.\u00a0 On one side are the instructions on how to build Terrax, while the other side relates a specific story about the character.\u00a0 Apparently each of his six pieces comes with a story summary and the name\/number of the book it came from.\u00a0 This is a fantastic way to help promote the Marvel Universe to kids and fans alike.\u00a0 Good going Hasbro.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I found Hope at Toys R Us, where each figure was about $18.\u00a0 They\u2019ll probably be a couple dollars less if you can wait for them to pop up at Target or Wal-Mart though.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty happy with my first new Marvel Legends figure.\u00a0 I can\u2019t afford to be a completist with this line, even though I\u2019d like to.\u00a0 But I\u2019ll definitely be picking up my favorite characters.<\/p>\n
