\"\"<\/a>I know I must be getting old because it seems like this year just flew by, and it looks like I\u2019m doing the final 2011 review.\u00a0 Surprise, it\u2019s an import!\u00a0 I\u2019m a little behind on Gokaiger reviews, so I\u2019ll get Gokai Blue in before next year begins.<\/p>\n

The second Gokaiger figure to be made in the SH Figuarts line is Gokai Blue, Joe Gibken.\u00a0 \u00a0Joe was once a loyal soldier for the evil Space Empire Zangyack.\u00a0 Under the tutelage of his master and fellow soldier Sid, Joe became an expert swordsman.\u00a0 His nearly unrivaled abilities led him to be quickly promoted to Zangyack\u2019s Special Forces.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

On his first mission Joe failed his duties in disgrace when he refused orders to kill a group of children and instead physically fought his commander until the kids could escape.\u00a0 Joe was imprisoned and beaten for his actions until Sid freed him, eventually sacrificing his own life so that Joe could escape.\u00a0 But with a tracking collar around his neck, Joe was constantly on the run from his Zangyack executioners.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Desperately outmanned and fighting for his life against a Zangyack unit, that\u2019s when Captain Marvelous (Gokai Red) found him.\u00a0 Together they defeated the Gormin foot soldiers and Marvelous even risked his life removing Joe\u2019s tracking collar.\u00a0 In return, Marvelous asked for Joe to join his crew and help him search out \u201cthe greatest treasure in the universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As an aside, Joe eventually learns that Sid was captured and experimented on.\u00a0 A Zangyack scientist removed his personality, emotions, and memories, but leaving his expert swordsmanship abilities intact.\u00a0\u00a0 Now he\u2019s a nearly unstoppable cyborg known as Barizorg, and personal bodyguard of the Zangyack Prince.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One thing that really bothers me about this line is its lack of enemies.\u00a0 Part of what makes Power Rangers interesting is the unlimited amounts of creative villains.\u00a0 What else are my super-articulated Rangers supposed to fight?\u00a0 Characters like Barizorg or the Gormin soldiers would make fantastic figures, and I really hope Bandai gets on the bad-guy ball soon.\u00a0 End aside.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve seen most of Joe\u2019s sculpt already with Marvelous\u2019 figure.\u00a0 Basically everything from the neck down is the same composition. \u00a0It\u2019s still a great sculpt, which looks entirely accurate, but we\u2019ve seen it before.\u00a0 And we\u2019re going to see it again with Gokai Green\u2019s figure.\u00a0 The one piece that is entirely new is Joe\u2019s helmet.\u00a0 Each helmet has its own unique visor design that adds a bit of personality to the figure.\u00a0 The angular look of Joe\u2019s visor makes him look much more serious somehow.\u00a0 Or maybe that\u2019s just me projecting the character\u2019s personality onto the mask.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Joe\u2019s predominant color is blue, of course.\u00a0 Most of the body is molded in the proper colors, but there is a terrific gloss effect on his helmet that I really like.\u00a0 Also, the gold highlighting seems to be painted with more care on Blue.\u00a0 My Gokai Red had a lot of little imperfections (and a couple of big ones), but it seems the quality control on Blue is much better.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Same body means same articulation.\u00a0 Joe\u2019s head, neck, torso, hips, and ankles are all ball joints.\u00a0 His shoulders are swivel\/hinges attached to a ball joint.\u00a0 His elbows and knees are double hinged, and there\u2019s also a hinge on his toe joint.\u00a0 His wrists are swivel\/hinges, and his biceps and thighs have a swivel joint.\u00a0 He has great posing ability, which is good because Joe has some great poses in the show.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gokai Blue comes with even more accessories than Red did.\u00a0 He has a slew of eleven alternate hands.\u00a0 There\u2019s also the standard Gokai sword and gun, his Mobirates morpher, and two tiny blue Ranger keys.\u00a0 Joe also comes with a couple of special swords that are melded together so he can reenact his special Five Sword Technique attack.\u00a0 I\u2019m really glad they chose to personalize some of his weapons; it helps take the sting away from the price.\u00a0 One thing I don\u2019t like is that even though his two multi swords come with alternate charges with keys molded in, they aren\u2019t made to flip up like the regular sword does.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All first release Gokaiger figures come with their Gokai Darin pieces.\u00a0 These steering wheels are what the Rangers use to pilot their own vehicles, or combined in the main cockpit to control their giant robot Gokai Oh.\u00a0 Where Marvelous has a more traditional ship\u2019s wheel, the rest of the crew have more of a driving design and are piloted sitting down.\u00a0 The wheel and chair are two separate pieces and are just as nicely sculpted and painted as Marvelous\u2019 Darin.\u00a0 Even though the wheel is smaller it still spins very freely, and you can insert a Ranger Key into the center.\u00a0 These are definitely great bonus pieces in my opinion.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m pretty happy with Joe.\u00a0 I knew what to expect after Gokai Red, but the additional accessories and new Darin were a nice surprise.\u00a0 Plus, the more crew members I get, the better they look as a whole.<\/p>\n
