<\/a>The New Adventures of He-Man is a strange corner of the MOTU Universe.\u00a0 On the surface it doesn\u2019t do much to fit into the original series.\u00a0 But the blending seems to go a lot smoother with the Classics continuity, which is why I\u2019m excited to see these characters in the line.<\/p>\n

I really need to watch some more New Adventures episodes.\u00a0 About a year ago I watched the first few, which was just enough to get used to the new status quo, but not enough to get to know the new characters.\u00a0 So I don\u2019t really know much about Flipshot\u2019s personality.\u00a0 Aside from the fact that he\u2019s a pilot and all pilots are cocky, right?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I was actually pretty surprised that Icarius picked as the second New Adventures figure to get the Classics treatment.\u00a0 I thought they would have gone with Hydron first, but then again I also thought we\u2019d the NA He-Man and Skeletor before anyone else.\u00a0 I wonder if they picked Flipshot because he\u2019s a pilot.\u00a0 Maybe this way Optikk can have an adversary.<\/p>\n

One reason why I\u2019m excited to see all of the New Adventures characters is because I want to see how the Horsemen interpret them.\u00a0 I already know what to expect with a remake of an original figure, but the NA and 200X characters always seem to have more of an artistic flare.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Icarius uses the standard MOTU \u201cbuck\u201d as base body, but there are plenty of new pieces mixed in to make him feel new.\u00a0 His biceps and forearms are sculpted bands with bits of tech added in.\u00a0 His boots are entirely new and two rocket boosters on the inside.\u00a0 The tops of his boot are going to be reused for the upcoming Slush Head figure, but they still look perfectly fine and not at all out of place.<\/p>\n

Icarius has a newly sculpted soft crotch piece that fits over the buck\u2019s crotch.\u00a0 Not only does it have a new belt but it also has those sculpted bands like the arms, so I imagine we\u2019ll be seeing it again sometime.\u00a0 I love my MOTU look, but it\u2019s nice not seeing every character furry loin cloths.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Flipshot\u2019s chest armor is also pretty interesting.\u00a0 It\u2019s made of soft plastic and plugs into itself in the back.\u00a0 The front has been given sculpted tubes, vents, and a tech box like the original toy, but the Horsemen also added some new vent-like details around the bottom and sides. \u00a0What surprised me the most about this piece is just how much the back resembles the original toy.\u00a0 Sculpted conduits run from the outer edges to the center, where the suit protrudes into a giant plug that\u2019s meant for his jetpack.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking of the jetpack, this thing is cool.\u00a0 The original Flipshot\u2019s toy jetpack had very little real detail on it and looked like a like multiple flat gray surfaces stacked on top of each other.\u00a0 But the Classics jetpack has that Horsemen flare when it comes to sculpting technology.\u00a0 The design has been exaggerated so that the wings swoop further forward, while all the lines on the vehicle pull your eyes towards the back.\u00a0 The design is reminiscent of the various Goblin Gliders from the Spider-Man comics, although it also reminds me of the Jet Sled from the original MOTU line.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The Jetpack\u2019s wings are articulated on hinges and can move forward and back.\u00a0 The missiles on the ends are also separate pieces and are designed to be fired like a flick missile.\u00a0 Something else that really surprised me was all the extra sculpting done on the center piece.\u00a0 Entire details like the fins and sphere were added, while other features like the buttons and vents were made to blend in.\u00a0 It makes me wonder if they\u2019ll be using this center piece over again for other mini-vehicles, especially since it can detach from the wings.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Icarius comes with two heads: one helmeted, and one not.\u00a0 It\u2019s been said quite a bit by now, and I can\u2019t ignore it either\u2026\u00a0 The sculpt is definitely Val Kilmer, circa Top Gun.\u00a0 But I don\u2019t have a problem with that because it helps add personality to a character that a lot of us don\u2019t know anything about.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

His helmeted head has been given a separate piece that can slide into place over his eyes.\u00a0 I really like the translucent red on the visor, but the piece itself fits loosely and is always popping off.\u00a0 I also don\u2019t think it moves down far enough, but that might just be me.<\/p>\n

Icarius\u2019 articulation is what you\u2019d expect from a MOTU Classics figure, but there is one problem.\u00a0 Icarius can\u2019t really look up, so giving him an effective flying pose is incredibly challenging.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a deal breaker, but it\u2019s definitely annoying.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Flipshot comes with one other accessory, his arm shield\/missile launcher.\u00a0 The piece itself looks great and can fit over either arm.\u00a0 Like the jetpack, the 4H took the properties of the original toy and enhanced them to be more dynamic.\u00a0 But even though the two missiles can detach from the arm piece, they are still stuck to each other.\u00a0 Double missiles are a bit frustrating, but at the same time it\u2019s also the same over the top cool that you find in a lot of MOTU.<\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m definitely happy with Icarius\u2019 figure, and I\u2019m glad we\u2019re getting our next New Adventures figure with Slush Head next May.\u00a0 I\u2019m also kind of wondering if we\u2019ll get any variant NA figures.\u00a0 It might be interesting to see a Classics Missile Armor Flipshot.<\/p>\n
