Review: Hurricane Hordak"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a>Each of us have that one specific character we can\u2019t wait to be recreated in the Classics line.\u00a0 Believe it or not, Hurricane Hordak is the figure I\u2019ve been anxiously anticipating since the very beginning.\u00a0 I just never expected him to be released so soon in the line.<\/p>\n

My love for Hordak doesn\u2019t come from the Princess of Power cartoon, which I don\u2019t recall ever seeing as a kid.\u00a0 No, my fondness goes all the way back to my eighth birthday when I received a Hurricane Hordak and Mantisaur from my grandparents.\u00a0 It was one of those perfect gifts that I always get a nostalgic feeling about, even so many years later.\u00a0 This was the only Hordak I had as a kid and with his shiny gold armor and spinning weapon hand, he was the only one I needed.\u00a0 Atop his mighty steed, only the combined forces of He-Man and Skeletor could stop this new terror, and the battles were always epic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This new Hurricane Hordak is a great modern interpretation of the character, even though there isn\u2019t much new to see when it comes to his sculpt.\u00a0 The majority of his body is reused from the first Hordak release.\u00a0 The most obvious new part is his right forearm and hand, which have been replaced by a mechanical bracer that can hold his new \u201cspinning\u201d weapons.\u00a0 As a kid, I always thought this piece looked more like a canon, and that\u2019s what I used it for the majority of the time.\u00a0 Who needs a hand when you can have a canon?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hordak\u2019s three attachments are Classicized versions of his original weapons.\u00a0 Sadly they\u2019re too tight to spin, but they will fit onto Trap Jaw\u2019s and Roboto\u2019s arms.\u00a0 So hopefully we\u2019ll be seeing some repaints of these weapons in the future.<\/p>\n

My favorite attachment was always the bat wings.\u00a0 Not only did I use them as a spinning saw blade, but they also made for a great helicopter device that he could use to escape with.\u00a0 The Four Horsemen did a great job mimicking the original\u2019s \u00a0creepy veins and little claws that grasp the edges.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

His bola weapon is equally accurate and creepy.\u00a0 I always found it a bit disturbing that the orbs had these spidery veins running across them.\u00a0 Does that mean they\u2019re organic and alive?\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t doubt it.\u00a0 Especially considering Hordak\u2019s the kind of guy that\u2019s willing to cut off his arm or replace his lungs with spinning saw blades just to have an edge in battle.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The last weapon is a large claw\/shield device.\u00a0 Unlike the other two, this one doesn\u2019t have any organic components.\u00a0 One thing I was a bit disappointed by is that they didn\u2019t add any articulation to this piece.\u00a0 The four prongs are sculpted to look like they\u2019re on hinges.\u00a0 I always thought it would be really cool if they could open and close, making this giant claw a bit more menacing.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Even though it looks mostly the same, Hordak\u2019s armor and cowl are also new sculpts.\u00a0 His cowl no longer has a cape attached to it, and his armor is now sporting a giant red dial on the back.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure about that dial the first time I saw it.\u00a0 Similar pseudo-gimmicks were added to Optikk\u2019s and Sy-Klone\u2019s waists, but those were small and fit in better with the tech-like designs of their belts.\u00a0 Hordak\u2019s big red dial just kind of sticks.\u00a0 But I\u2019ve been playing with this figure for a couple days now, and I guess I\u2019ve gotten used to it.\u00a0 Would he look better without it?\u00a0 Maybe, but his armor would be a lot more boring.\u00a0 Besides, this way we can say he replaced his spine with a buzz saw.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the things that makes this Hurricane Hordak so cool is his color scheme.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always been a fan of the original\u2019s shiny gold armor.\u00a0 I would have really preferred it if Matty had developed an entirely new piece that was made out of the hard plastic of the Battle Armor figures.\u00a0 I think this would have made the armor easier to remove without damaging the gold.\u00a0 As is, you have to take his head off and slightly bend the armor to get it around his body.\u00a0 This causes the gold layer to begin to fracture and flake.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I know a lot of people were very disappointed with this, and decided not to buy him because of it.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything wrong with that decision.\u00a0 But keep in mind that I\u2019ve been playing around and posing my Hordak for a few days now.\u00a0 I\u2019ve taken him outside for pictures, and he\u2019s even fallen off of my table once.\u00a0 I have yet to see any cracking or chipping of his gold armor.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have to see how it plays out over time. \u00a0Obviously if he\u2019s going to be played with by a child or you\u2019re planning on removing his armor, then he won\u2019t last as long.\u00a0 But in my opinion, if you\u2019re just a bit more careful with this figure then I think he\u2019ll last quite a while without any major problems.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Aside from the new gold armor, Hordak\u2019s also got these great new glossy black highlights that replace most of the silver armor pieces from the original Classics figure.\u00a0 I think this gives his costume a great pleathery evil scientist look and makes him much more menacing, like he really will remove your kidneys and replace them with laser guns.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been waiting for this figure from the beginning.\u00a0 Even though the gold armor isn\u2019t perfect, I\u2019m so happy they still went with it.\u00a0 Now he stands out on my shelf like the badass he is, and he\u2019s taken the first figure\u2019s place as group leader.\u00a0 Sorry first Hordak figure, there\u2019s a new Prime in town and you\u2019re going into the overflow box.\u00a0 Now he just needs a ride.\u00a0 Looks like it\u2019s time to begin lobbying for a Manitisaur.<\/p>\n
