<\/a> Okay, this review is a little late. The Great Wars Weapons Pak was released back in November, but the holidays kept me a little too busy to haul out the store and the review fell back on the schedule. I had some time last week during Dorkey’s Japan coverage and the Great Wars Pak finally get its time in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

When Mattel released the first Weapons Pak back in April of last year, I had this overly ambitious idea to do the review in one long strip at an unassuming weapons store<\/a> somewhere on Eternia. The review ended up being a lot more popular than I’d expected, so “the store” became a fixture for later looks at other weapons like this Spymonkey Review<\/a>. With the release of the second Weapons Pack, it was only natural to return to the store once again…<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

Like the Ultimate Battleground Weapons Pak, this set included 19 weapons. While this set included a few choice items, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first. I took out a handful of the weapons in November, but most of them were still in the package when I decided to review it last week.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This was one of the items I was happy to get. I enjoy the MO2Kesque accessories that Randor came with, but I like him just as much with his vintage gold spear (along with SMC’s Shield of Deliverance).<\/em><\/p>\n

If you’re a longtime IAT reader, you know what two weapons I wanted most from this pak. After a long campaign, we finally have a full set of Weapons for Faker…<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

…and yes, that means I have to move on to the next request. I’m thinking Battle Armor Faker.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Originally, Adora’s sword came in solid silver. Mattel answered fan requests by releasing it here in the same two-tone colors as the Power Sword.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Another fan requested item, the heavy reuse of parts on Evil Lyn (she only got a new head and accessories) allowed room in the budget for Screech to get his armor and perch. This Weapons Pak brings things full circle, with the armor and perch coming in colors that match early card art for this version of Zoar.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’m gonna guess that this weapon is here simply because it’s part of the set\/mold with Randor’s spear. I don’t dislike the weapon, but I don’t have much use for it in these colors. I’m told it looks good with Optikk in particular though.<\/em><\/p>\n

Roboto steals a lot of the show in this picture, but the focus here should be on the right with Optikk’s gear in purple & black. Some collectors use these for Trap Jaw, but I think they look pretty cool as extra armament for Orko. At least the gun anyway, getting the shield to stay is a bit tricky.<\/em><\/p>\n

We’ll get a closer look at Roboto’s weapons here in a second. I do love the idea though. I eagerly await some complimentary TJ weapons in silver and I’m still hoping that Fisto & Jitsu’s fists attach similarly.<\/em><\/p>\n

Evil Lyn’s weapons in purple are another oddity in this set. It’s said to be her MO2K gear, but that would be black. Maybe there will be a theme that something has to be turned purple for no reason in each weapons pack?<\/em><\/p>\n

The packaging severely warped my long staff, but the real problem I had with it was getting the head of the staff on and off. I had to heat it up just to get it on for this review. The plastic quality bit me both ways on this one.<\/em><\/p>\n

Finally, Mer-Man’s armor in MO2K colors. Kinda. Like a lot of this set, I think this will end up in the extra parts bin too.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now I know these are technically intended for Trap Jaw, but I’m going a little off script to wrap this up.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the reasons I do enjoy the weapons pak (even the ones that don’t make a lot of sense) is that they can really help diversify the shelf when given to customs.<\/em><\/p>\n

In this case, a forgotten, evil Roboto model.<\/em><\/p>\n

Keep your eyes peeled. He might just show up again…<\/em><\/p>\n

Overall, while there were some great things about this pak like Faker’s orange gear and Randor’s spear, but the oddities really seemed to outweigh them on this set. Some issues like the warped plastic and difficult to swap head on Evil Lyn’s staff were also drawbacks. I still love the idea of Weapons Paks (I’m a bit bummed that the Rack is taking the place of a 2011 Pak), but there’s no denying that I left most of these pieces in there package for nearly three months.<\/p>\n

The important thing here is to note how many of the items were fan requested: Randor’s Spear, Faker’s Weapons, Zoar’s Armor & Perch, and Adora’s Sword. We’re also getting a purple axe with Battle Armor Skeletor. I can’t talk enough about how much I enjoy seeing companies utilize the fan ideas and requests in areas where they can. That combined with the novelty of Roboto & Trap Jaw having interchangeable parts and the set does make you feel like you got your $12 worth even if a chunk of the weapons don’t have an obvious place.<\/p>\n

Speaking of obvious, even though I had a ton of fun with my evil Roboto, I figured I’d better show you Trap Jaw as intended…<\/p>\n
