Just to add though, it should be mentioned that when Mattel had abandoned all hope for MotU after their inept handling of the relaunch blew up in their faces, it was the 4H and the 4H alone (well, with some help from NECA) that had the fans' backs.

Even though they were flatly denied any permission to make action figures, they championed on, developing the Staction concept to give fans the next best (or even better, depending on who you ask) thing. And also worth noting is that all the Staction, Bust, and Statue work they did was basically done for free.

Now ask yourselves: how many industry professionals, in ANY industry, would do the same?

That there's a SHORT list.

I get the feeling that even the most talented, creative, problem solving brand manager couldn't get much more out of the Mattel Execs... because they'd go work for another company after a few months.

Glad to see that the neck pieces are stackable from the first looks. Even if it didn't occur to Mattel to do purposefully, they logically had to be able to do it...

I'm painting the goggles on mine like the 200X Version... All silver look weird without Vac Metal...

He's OK I guess, but to be honest any desire to pick him up (like Buzz-Off and Sy-Klone before him, as examples) is 100% rooted in nostalgia with this one.

the one thing mek has going for him is the stackable neck segments. i do agree though that silver paint, on a silver head, looks dumb... they should have either given him the green 200x goggles, or vac metalled them.

but again here, my nostalgia for this character lie less in him than his action feature. i loved the "battering ram" headbutt he could effect, and taking that ability away pretty much removes the possibility of the nostaliga buy for me.

I know you're a take 'em down and play with 'em guy, especially with the boys, but I don't think its a huge deal since ultimately for most fans he'll just end up on a shelf. but i do see your point, I kind of missed the water squirting feature on Snout Spout --- and Mosquitor's "blood sucking" feature is what made him cool. Rattlor is in the same category. I used to use his head-springing action to knock over other figures, won't be able to do that anymore!

of yeah, i'm not saying the figure sucks or anything, just that for me, in this case, the nostalgia allure was more in his action feature than the character. i have that tendency a lot w/ motuc, actually, which is why this time around, the characters that seem to really mean something to me now are the ones that are new to the line. for a lot of the vintage characters, i was more attached to the feature.

that really came to light during the tmnt line too, holy CRAP did i love that line, but today? you couldn't interest me in half those characters cuz they wouldn't replicate the action feature in the new figure, like for example w/ mutagen man or even a scumbug, and no one ever, in the entire future history of toys will ever surpass muckman as the best pure toy ever created. they just won't. you could give it a voice chip, 100 PoA, make him 2 feet tall, and he could come w/ a real midget dressed as joe eyeball, it would not top the original figure.

so back to motuc, i like the guys now who either really showcase innovative new developments (like fisto having two different looks) or guys that are flat out new and are letting me create new memories around new characters, new ideas, new stories (like vikor). i'm definitely NOT into motuc as a means to replace then entirety of my vintage collection, and i'm not sold at all on the characters who don't change up from the vintage formula.

I don't get that either being stuck in the vintage line so much.
