DCU All-Stars Wave 2 Thread

Postby NoisyDvL5 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 11:46 pm

I know I've been busy, but no talk of Wave 2?!

DCnU Superman
DCnU Flash
Red Robin
Supergirl (Black Costume Repaint)

The Red Robin looks nice, but I'd rather it be on the teen buck for Tim. Other than him though, this is definitely how the might have fallen scenario for me. DC & Mattel have all but slain my interest.

The CnC's were a big part of me jumping into this line. Their absence places more burden of the figures themselves to be really cool, and so far, they're not.

Did Mattel cheap out on the New 52 costumes as well?

Finally, Red Robin looks like Dr. Midnight.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. At first glance I immediately thought, "why are they remaking Dr. Midnight?"

The C&C/BAF was definitely a huge appeal to me in this line. If it hadn't been because of those figures I doubt I would have so many complete waves. Even thinking back to Wave 1, I picked up Batman and Penguin --- it was only the prospect of completing Metamorpho that led me to pick up Orion, Red T, and Etrigan. Of course thats a bad example, cuz I think those figures still hold up well. But FF to Wave 2 w/ Strawberry/Blueberry Superman and Wave 6 or Wave 7 where there such gems as Kid Flash and Dolphin Suit Aquaman where the ONLY reason I bought them was to get the C&C part.

Sort of the worst of all worlds really:

1) Weak, or non-existent new sculpting.

2) Mediocre character choices

3) No CnC

4) Few to no accessories

5) Higher price

and we can probably assume lousy QC to boot.

Who knew the club subscription would look like such a good deal in comparison?

Mediocre characters is still the reason I don't own CnC Despero, Atom-Smasher, Imperiex, Darkseid and so on. Metallo too, but I'll add availability to the list of reasons.

In any case, the two 2012 waves revealed so far both seem like duds to me (I'm fortunate that the Green Lantern sandbox doesn't appeal to me, so I can comfortably skip guys like Larfleeze).

I bought the Despero wave online from ETC, so it was all in one swoop. I thought Wave 4 was pretty solid character-wise. Atom Smasher was a tough sell though, especially having to buy Kid Flash. Imperiex I didn't care to assemble at all so I've just got a buncha spare parts laying around. Not to mention that I only ever saw Beast Boy once. I was originally going to pass on Kilowog but after seeing him completed in person I had to have him. Luckily I was able to get a couple parts from friends so the only ones I "had" to buy were Katma Tui and The Shark. I traded for Darkseid's upper/middle torso so I didn't have to end up with a Mary Batson on my hands. I begrugingly bought Eclipso, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Teal'c Iron.

This is pretty much me as well.

But I'm also out for iconic versions as opposed to flash in the pan stuff that isn't all that visually interesting.

Here you go!

http://insidepulse.com/2011/12/27/dc-un ... -revealed/

Again, it's New! 52! Superman! Why he didn't get a new mold is beyond me. Then share the parts with the similarly-lined flash, GL, and Batman.

But no, same damn buck.
