I felt uncomfortable reading TG’s and Emiliano‘s posts. Also TG’s lack of PR is showing again.

oh, i didn't feel uncomfortable. i loved it. emil is right, cuz toy guru even said "i didn't make a formal offer" and if emiliano has done vendor work for them before, submitting a portfolio again seems unnecessary and demeaning.

but the best part was TG putting the orgers in their place. i certainly understand, they feel like the center of the motu universe but TG is right, there is a bubble there that insulates them from reality. they are fewer in number than they'd like to believe, and probably aren't the best place for mattel to reference for line advice...

or are they?

if there's a bigger concentration of motu fans to be found elsewhere, i wouldn't know where that'd be. they also know more about the property than even TG himself in most cases. so on the one hand, they're only a percentage of the buying public. but that said, they're the most devoted continued fanbase anywhere on the internet. it's retarded to squander a resource like that, and a manager of any kind should know, you don't waste resources.

should every line decision be run past the org? let's put it this way, if i had to a test market of that size, who'll work for free, i'd run anything i wasn't sure of past them for an idea of the larger reaction. TG's bull starfruit about "we did a ton of research elsewhere" is a load of crap though. google analytics can easily tell you that none of the big toy sites draw site hits for motuc like the org does) and there is no avenue of research more long term and singular in nature than that site. did they do mailers? i sure haven't heard of that. did they hold a panel at SDCC? sure, and there's a thousand people there, of whom there were likely many, many orgers. let's put it this way... for any panel at SDCC, there are essentially 4 folks attending, those who are already fans and want to hear the latest goodies, those who got pushed through by the herd and kind of got lost, the press covering the panel and folks are are place sitting for a future panel and have ZERO interest in the goings on in the room. for argument's sake, that's 3 in 4 people in the room who genuinely intend to make purchases based on what they hear in a best case scenario, but only 1 in 4 is pretty much going to make that purchase. and of course, not every product will interest every interested party... so that's spotty research, to say the very best.

the whole thing about geoff johns bringing new buyers to the table... yeah, we'll see. i think it's bogus that someone hasn't already pulled the sales data from emil and val's comic run to see what kind of units they were moving as a comparison. and as that translates to toy sales... they're different beasts. trust me, if there were a direct parallel between a media's ability to sell in it's original format and toy sales, NECA would be the biggest company on the planet right now. tally the sales of the gears of war games, the robocop movies, and the gremlins movies alone, in ticket/DVD/game sales, and by the Geoff Johns Gamut, NECA would be moving their billionth figure any day now. obviously, they're not doing that kind of business. his whole "we did a ton of research" thing is a rhetorical tool to say "you can't question me cuz you don't know." i know his dad never took him out to the woodshed and held him accountable for his behavior, because no man raised by another man grows up to be such a seedy twat.

overall, it again illustrated the lack of character of scott (i'm getting to the point that calling him a guru, even in reference to toys, hurts. he's in no way exalted above any other fan of any other property, and his status of a brand manager simply means he's complicit in selling his soul to a large corporation. a guru is a spiritual title, and it's earned. he's neither spiritual nor earned jack squat)

I love how Scott just goes from picking one wrong thing to another and always incessantly runs it straight into the ground.

This time, it's the "200" number thing. I'd love to know who gave him that figure, and what the motive behind it was.

But yeah Emiliano's right, if ANYONE deserved a figure slot in the 30th set aside from the 4H, it would be dudes like Mark Taylor.

Last time I checked, MotU was still first and foremost a TOY property, so yeah, I think I'd want the guy who principally designed 2 of the greatest and most successful toy lines ever (MotU and TMNT) to be invited to that party.

well see, right now, he's not a mattel guy... and he doesn't oversee a comic empire. so he's old news, yesterday's trash, he's dead as disco. they want the new. i'm amazed rebecca black isn't designing one.

i do have to say, it was class that emiliano recommended an alternate way of dealing w/ the anniversary sub that in no way plugged himself or val. that's how a class act acts. i also think it was very kind of the fanbase not to mention that rhetorically speaking, celebrating an anniversary is a remembrance of past achievements, not generally a "how do we leave the past behind" party. so introducing new concepts during an anniversary celebration is like adding a prenup during a wedding anniversary... in other words, a great way to end up divorced by next anniversary.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again: Scott's PR skills suck ass!
Now, regardless the "true size" vs the "200 in Nite-Lik's eyes" of the .org; he shouldn't be pissing off loyal customers...
If the subs are at an "all-time low", I don't think it's wise to piss off 200 or whatever the number of dot-orgers are...
I always thought that the 30th should be a journey across the 30 years of MOTU with the winners of the two Create a character contest as the book-ends of said journey. Emiliano's ideas kick all sorts of ass and any of them would've been better than the Scott Neitlich/Geoff Johns circle jerk sub-line... (The other 4 figures are part of the "This is not a SN/GJ circle jerk" cover up...) Especially the one contacting People involved with MOTU throughout it's 30 years...

Yes, I'll side with the .orgers on the whole "Emiliano/Val are more worthy of being part of MOTU's 30th than Geoff Johns.

Now he threw in a little comment that in 2013 there might be a "fan-favorite/fan-choice figure" thing just to distract us from the idiotic move of Pissing off the customers... My guess is that Illumina will be among the list, but overshadowed by more wanted vintage characters like Shokoti, Sea Hawk or Scorpia... SO then he can come and say: "We gave Illumina a chance, but as I said, the 50 Illumina fans are louder than numerous"... I want Illumina and I may even buy the Purple Spector just to have Illumina kneeing the PS in the balls like that pic floating around Facebook...

Millions? When is the last time a comic sold in the millions? He has potentially 100,000s of fans. And you can't say everyone buying a GL book is buying it for just him. Some people are simply fans of the character no matter who is writing it. And if they want to overlap sales from the other books he writes, you can't know who is actually buying what. totally. this is why i said their research is bull starfruit. lots of comic fans follow an author, or an artist, or a character... they're giving johns credit as the creative director for every single comic sold under the DC label (and apparently, for the year as a time period to get to millions). i don't recall too many comic fans ever telling me, "aw, man, that creative director is awesome! everything he touches turns to liquid gold!" right... by that rationale, i suppose that bob harras likewise has millions of fans? doesn't that mean they should have called jeff suter to see if he was a he-man fan? or virtually everyone who's ever outsold a dc comic book w/ an art director's credentials? cuz really, that's john's legacy... he's a art director, and not exactly a successful one, who happens to be a he-man fan. hell, dolph lundgren is more successful and WAS he-man. we didn't do the research on letting him design a fig, did we?

Brad Meltzer is a bad writer that's familiar to DC fans and actually does have millions of fans (he's a best-selling novelist after all - people will buy anything).

I'd rather see Neil Gaiman make a MOTUC figure. There's a guy with millions of fans and his Twitter network alone would be the most effective word of mouth Mattycollector has ever gotten. And everyone knows Gaiman could make a better MOTU character than Johns.

That said, I don't really care about GJ making a figure anymore. He's an infection that overtakes everything else I like, so why not have his stink on MOTU too? We have the running gag that he's going to come to rearrange my toy collection or redecorate my house.

But it's facetious for TG to act like this is anything more than nerd-nepotism. Toy Guru worked hard and got to a great place in his career where he gets to pal around with the writer of his favorite comic. That is pretty cool, but letting that writer jump in and make a MOTU figure? That's lame, there's no two ways about it. It'd be lame if Neil Gaiman was doing it, so it's quadrupedly lame for Geoff Johns.

I don't really want to comment on the .org topic, but dayraven, I think the MVC comics had 10 000 copies per issue. I'm not 100% on that, but I'm pretty sure that's the figure I read online.

I wanted to share the cryptic message Toyguru posted on He-Man.org the other day (which He-Mullet touched upon):

Some have been speculating this may be a "Fan Poll" for obscure characters. Illumina might fit in there. Not sure if her cat would be part of the equation though...I would like both!

Either way, whatever TG is hinting at sounds pretty exciting!
