Oh hell yeah, you can go on a blues kick for years....I have. I've been to "The Crossroads".

Yeah traditional blue grass that still shows it's heritage is fantastic. Clearly american music but still that sound of the hills of ireland.

EXACTLY!! my dad is on this inexplicable kick of bluegrass gospel but it's all contemporary bands (so he's thoroughly invested in the gaithers' houseboat fund) and the few times i've said "hey, if you like this stuff, you should peep some blue grass boys or tommy jarrell" and he looks at me like i'm retarded. if it's not available for 9.99 at the gaither concert "praise the lord and price the ammunition" tour, he doesn't know and doesn't care. he's been sucked into this commercial "let's get ya saved!" music thing and seems to be buying himself a stairway to heaven, so to speak, based on gospel CD's of mediocre musicians. oh well. his loss man.

I live my musical life digging up old graves and breaking down walls. If don't dig deep, then I would miss something. For too long I did that, I'm not going back to it. Century Media is where I cut my teeth on things you aren't finding in every store. I live on the who influenced who. People say I-tunes has taken away the search but I submit it doesn't. I go to i-tunes and pick a genre and just start looking. Find a band and see if I like it. Then go finding the bands that are stylistically like them. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it don't. But you aren't listening to music until you have found something you don't like. Taste is just as much about what you like as about what you hate.

dude, totally... i rifle for hours through itunes finding stuff and then seeing what pulls up in "sounds like" or "other people also bought" and have tons of killer stuff, more than i can afford. there's so much good music there that isn't lady gaga or linkin park (not that there's anything inherantly wrong w/ either of those)

This is why wishlist feature in I-tunes now is such a great feature. I just wishlist the stuff I can't get yet. and then when I have some music money saved up I go get me some.

has anyone here done rhapsody? a friend of mine has been trying to convince me of it's superiority to itunes and while i'm sure it's cooler, "pay a buck, own a song" is pretty damned easy, and i've found a metric ton of cool stuff there i'd never heard of... how's the selection on rhapsody, if anyone knows?

I've never used rhapsody. I'm like I-tunes and it's never done me wrong.

my st louis friend is all about that service too. apparently it's acceptable at his workplace, so he pulls up a channel and jams for his whole shift.
