Ecto-Thread: Ghostbusters! (SDCC 2011 News Pg. 18)

For all the lines not covered in our themed forums. Think Thundercats, Ghostbusters, Voltron, Wrestling, Doctor Who, Power Rangers, Video Game Licenses, TV & Film Licenses... do I need to go on or did you have it figured out before I even started?

Lay Ze-Man is very close. It's was most likely to reduce the amount of line work that needs to be done. There is a saying in the animation industry along the lines of "A line drawn is a mile done" or something like that. For one drawing a mustache is no problem, but some scenes can sometimes have more than 100 drawings. This not only means that you would have to draw that mustache 100 times, you would have to make sure that the line work for the mustache maintains the same shape as well as make sure the lines don’t “boil” or jitter.

How is he?

And they can't do that. The accessories are part of the "value". :matty:

He's pretty cool.

It doesn't feel anywhere as triumphant as "finally getting an official Bill Murray likeness Peter Venkman figure, sculpted by the 4H no less" should be.

But it's a solid Venkman figure for sure, and I'm happy to feel almost done with the line.

cuz the boys are apparently not quite the masters of portraits... and cuz the gene-body sucks. look, we're all bad at stuff we're otherwise good at... and the horsemen are excellent at apparently everything in action figures... except doing real people likenesses. they need to leave that business to NECA or someone else.

Nah, I like the body pretty well (just not for each and every one of 'em) it's nicely articulated and allows for cool wand poses.

And in general, I dig the 4H's likenesses. Sometimes, with McFarlane or NECA, they'd get the likeness almost too close (by scanning and so on) to the point of missing the "feel" of the character so in general I'd prefer to keep likenesses a little more on the cartoonish side to avoid creepy zombie or death mask-looking figures.

Also, who knows what approvals had to be done for these, a lot of times actors refuse sculpts that look more like them in favor of more flattering (less realistic) ones.

Then you have to figure in Mattel's butchering of the sculpts, like what happened with Ray.

That all said, I probably would've had the 4H take one more pass at the Murray portrait.

I sometimes look at the DCUCs and see actors in them. I wonder if that's ever on purpose.
