So the time for speculation is over.
We have seen the "dramatic" price increase. While Subscribers have enjoyed the locked-in price of $20 per figure, they will now be paying $25 per figure while everyone else is going to pay $27. That just seems like a starfruit of money for a single action figure. Not to mention tax/shipping, so now you're paying about $35 PER FIGURE.
I'm really glad they eliminated the quarterly "bonus" figure SKU --- at least that will "save" subscribers about $100.
Of course they still have the 4 quarterly items (1 – $25, 1 – $30, 1 – $50, 1 – $75). We already know the $30 SKU is Ram Man and the $75 SKU are the Fighting Foe Men. I'm betting dollars for donuts the $25 SKU is the 2013 Fan Choice Slot and the $40 will be a 2-pack.
So the Sub Exclusive, revealed to be King He-Man is by no means a "must-have" --- I think a lot of people feared that they would have done someone like Ram Man. He does serve to advance the MOTU Bioverse story (whether you like it or not) and is one that people could easily pass on w/o starfruit a brick (i.e. Shadow Weaver).
Maybe because they eliminated the Quarterly Bonus Figure SKUs, but it feels like there is less product this year. That could also have something to do with the fact that there is also no 30th Anniv line either. I think going into this knowing we're getting Ram-Man, Fighting Foe Man, a Fan Choice Figure and a 2-pack of something (Hopefully Horde Troops) it doesn't seem quite so bad --- its not like what they pulled with us this year by giving us the Gryphon and the Procrusty.
In retrospect, excluding the Star Sisters, everything in 2012 was a home run --- right up until June where we got Horde Prime, Snake MAA, and the Griffin. Thats where it started to drop. Spikor, Mekaneck, Rattlor, and Mosquitor may be enough to salvage this year, but the Snake Men 2pk, Frosta, and Eternos Palace Randor kind of drag it down in my mind. I'm being kind of picky, '12 will probably go down as being the best year in MOTUC. 2013 certainly has a lot to live up to, but they're starting out nice and strong with Ram-Man and Jitsu. I just hope we quickly get more strong character choices, like Snake Face which they hinted at.
